Exun 2015 Inter-School IT Symposium

Exun Clan, the Computer Club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, hosted its 20th Inter-School IT Symposium, EXUN 2015 on the 28th and 29th of November 2015. The event was sponsored by Intel, StartEdu, Unity Group and Microsoft Research. Exun, short for ‘Experts Unlimited’, was founded by the Head of the Computer Science department, Mr. Mukesh Kumar and a small group of computer enthusiasts in the year 1992. Exun Alumni members is an elite group of computer enthusiasts of all ages. This year, with over 800+ participants from 40+ schools, Exun organised 15 different IT events.

Present at the opening of the event were the Principal, Dr. D. R. Saini; the Headmistress, Ms. Anita Singh; and Mr. Mukesh Kumar, the Head of the Computer Science department along with his team of Computer Science Teachers and technology support team.

The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp. The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini addressed the gathering and extended a warm welcome to all the guests. He spoke about the importance of technology in our lives and the prevalence of honesty and merit. A short Exun video was presented highlighting the various competitions the event would include, receiving a huge round of applause by the audience.

The event was given a head start with Mr. Ankit Buti of Buti Technologies. He spoke about the culture of startups and entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley. On the first day, 6 events including Senior and Junior Quizzes, Group Debate, Crossword, Intel’s Teacher Learn and Intel’s Student S Learn workshops were held. Sudocrypt v5.0, the online cryptic hunt, was another initiative by Exun that witnessed 63646 submissions from 1338 participants from over 26 countries around the world.

The second day consisted of the final rounds for the Junior Quiz, Senior Quiz, Crossword, and Gaming; along with Build Pitches, Swat the Bug and Learn-CS research. The guest of the closing ceremony was Mr. Sandeep Aurora, Director Marketing and Marketing development, Intel. He spoke about the culture of innovation in India, motivating the children to participate more actively in India’s technological progress. He also congratulated girls participating in the technology events and conveyed that more girls should come forward to join in technology related programmes and initiatives. According to him, India is poised to be the technological leader of the globe in the near future. Mr. Sandeep Aurora, Mr. Ankit Buti, Mr. Monojit Choudhary of Microsoft Research and Mr. Mukesh Kumar gave away the awards.

The events were judged by Mr. Ankit Buti, Mr. Monojit Choudhary along with Exun alumni Adideva Sekhri, Parth Mittal, Shiven Mian, Vishesh Balani, and Bharat Kashyap. Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, emerged out as the Overall Winners of the event.

It was, indeed, a learning experience for all the participants.
