The Economics Department of Delhi Public School, R.K Puram organised a workshop for the teachers of core schools of DPS Society on 7 March 2018. Its objective was to make the process of teaching and learning of economics more interesting and exciting for the students as well as the teachers.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Chairman of the DPS Society and DPS R.K.Puram Managing Committee, Mr V.K. Shunglu. He encouraged the teachers to use supplementary teaching material beyond the prescribed curriculum and teach the basic concepts of economics thoroughly to the students in their early stage.
The Principal, Ms Vanita Sehgal, addressed the gathering by personifying economics as the recession of hairline, inflation of the belly and the combination of these two as depression of mind. She urged the teachers to bring about a change in teaching pedagogy and to make it more child centric.
Dr. Anubha Gopal welcomed all the teachers of core schools. Ms Anita Singhal, Head of the Economics Department, introduced new teaching pedagogy which would remove the rigidity in mundane style of delivering the lesson. She highlighted that the need of the hour is to first question the students, then build the model around it and finally quench their thirst for knowledge with the rationale behind it.
Ms Richa Aggarwal took a number of real life situations pertaining to students’ life and explained the concept of scarcity, work and problem of choice.
Ms Shelly Malhotra brought freshness in project making approach by giving a list of topics beyond the prescribed curriculum.
Ms Nandini Vashisht used the graphical approach to build the multiplier model in macro economics.
Ms Ashima Sharma laid stress upon important concepts of demand and supply in micro economics and correlated with history of economics.
Ms Vijaylakshmi Marwaha explained the concept of diminishing returns with the help of active participation of audience using activity oriented approach.
All the sessions were informative, educative and enriching.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by the Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayar. She expressed her gratitude and thanked the Principal and the Chairman for giving the platform to interact, educate and share information for the growth and development of Economics as a subject.
