Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram hosted the annual Dr. Prem Kirpal Memorial Inter-School Art and Poetry competition ‘Art Poetica’ on 10 December 2015 in the fond memory of the former Chairman of DPS Society, Dr. P. N. Kirpal.
The Chairman of the DPS Society, Mr V. K. Shunglu, was the Chief Guest at the Prize Distribution Ceremony. The Guest of Honour was Mrs Aruna Kirpal, wife of Chief Justice B. N. Kirpal (Retd.). Rear Admiral M. M. Chopra, Vice Chairman of DPS Society; Mr Pramod Grover, Treasurer of DPS Society and Vice Chairman of DPS R.K. Puram Managing Committee; Mrs. Renu Mital, Director of DPS Society; Prof. B. P. Khandelwal, Dr. Usha Luthra, and Mr. Narendra Kumar, Members of DPS Society; Mr. Manohar Lal, Principal of DPS Mathura Road and Mrs. Bindhu Sehgal, Principal of DPS Vasant Kunj also graced the occasion with their presence. The guests were welcomed by the Principal, Dr. D. R. Saini, the Vice Principals, Mrs. Shobha Mehta, Ms. Vanita Sehgal and Ms. Padma Srinivasan; the Headmistress, Mrs. Anita Singh and Mrs.Savita Vasesi, the Head of English Department.
Students from 22 schools participated in the competitive events which included ‘Blend Art’, ‘Artistic Poesy’, ‘Lyrical Canvas’, ’Stage-A-Verse’, ‘Double Harness ’, and ‘Lime-In-Rhyme’. The events were held simultaneously at multiple venues. Blend Art involved recitation, dramatization and painting of the essence of a poem selected by the participants. In Artistic Poesy, participants composed a ballad on the five paintings given as a prompt. Lyrical Canvas required participants to make a monochromatic painting on the emotion prevalent in a line of a famous poem. ‘Stage-A-Verse’ had participants writing and enacting a skit in verse on a given prompt. In Double Harness, the participants formed couplets on the basis of three prompts – a line, a word and an emotion given to each student in three rounds. ’Lime-In-Rhyme’ was a limerick composing competition. The events were assessed by a team of eminent judges.
The Valedictory function commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the guests. The cultural programme included a colourful performance by the students of DPS R. K. Puram, depicting the journey of philosophy down the ages through a fusion of song, dance and drama in verse. In his address to the audience, the Principal, Dr. D. R. Saini, expressed his gratitude to the Kirpal family for their constant support.
Blend Art was won by DPS R. K. Puram, followed by Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan; DPS Noida and DPS Vasant Kunj shared the third position. Vasant Valley School bagged the first position in Artistic Poesy; DPS Mathura Road and Amity International School, Saket came second and third respectively. DPS R. K. Puram won Lyrical Canvas; followed by The Indian School and DPS Gurgaon. First, second and third positions of Stage-A-Verse were secured by Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan; DPS Noida and DPS Mathura Road respectively. DPS Gurgaon won the first prize for Double Harness followed by DPS Bulandshahar and St. George’s School. Lime-In-Rhyme was won by DPS Indirapuram; while DPS R. K. Puram and Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan were awarded second and third prizes.
The overall winner was DPS R.K.Puram followed by Springdales, Dhaula Kuan and DPS Mathura Road at the second and third positions. Since DPS R.K.Puram was the host school, the trophy was handed over to Springdales School. Ms Vanita Sehgal, Incharge of the English Department delivered the vote of thanks and commended the efforts of her team of teachers and students. The programme ended with the national anthem.
