DIGEX PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL – 2015

DIGEX, the Photography Club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organised the “Digex Photography Festival” on 18th April 2015 in partnership with Canon. DIGEX, short for “Digital Excellence” was formed in 2009, and consists of more than 35 photography enthusiasts from classes 6th-12th. The club is majorly student run under the guidance of Ms. Sarika Kaushal and members of the faculty.

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr Andrew Koh, Senior Director for Canon India Team. The guests of honour included Ms. Sandhya Chauhan, Regional Business Head at Canon India and Mr. Shivam Avasthi, Regional Business Manager at Canon India. The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini; The Vice Principal, Ms. Shobha Mehta; the Head of the Department of Computer Science, Mr. Mukesh Kumar; the teacher in-charge for DIGEX, Ms. Sarika Kaushal and all the teachers of the Computer Science Department were also present.

The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp and felicitation of the guests. A short video clip on the work done by members of DIGEX was screened.

The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini addressed the gathering and extended a warm welcome to all present. He talked about the importance of teamwork and the spirit of participation. The Chief Guest, Mr. Andrew Koh expressed his views on the emerging art of photography saying, “Photography is the new form of creative arts, a new way of expression and a new hobby for students”.

The program consisted of four competitive events, the “Junior Photorun”, “Senior Surprise Event”, “Senior Story Board Event” and “Movie Making”. The Canon Team also hosted a workshop for students and teachers. The judges for these events were Mr. Vikalp Sharma, Mr. Gaurav Mishra and Mr. Nitish Pandey – representatives of the Canon India Team. Other highlights of the event included the Print and Click Activities.
In the results tally, the Senior Surprise Event was won by Kulachi Hansraj Model School, while Bal Bharati Public School, Pitampura came second and Step by Step School and Lancer’s Convent School, Prashant Vihar had a tie for the third position. The Mother’s International School, Sri Aurobindo Marg won the first prize in the Senior Story Board Competition, followed by Tagore International School, Paschimi Marg,Vasant Vihar and Lancer’s Convent School, Prashant Vihar in second and third place respectively. The Junior Photorun was won by Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, the second position was bagged by The Shri Ram School, Moulsari and Delhi Public School, R.K Puram while the third prize went to Amity International School, Sector 46,Gurgaon. Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vasant Vihar along with DPS R K Puram secured the first position in the Movie Making Event, followed by Tagore International School, East of Kailash and Vasant Valley School, Vasant Kunj in second and third position respectively.

The event concluded with a mime act performed by the Expressions Theatre Club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram. This was followed by a short video depicting the events of the day and a token of appreciation was given to the representatives of Canon Team India. Mr. Mukesh Kumar (HOD Computer Science), Mrs. Sangeeta Rana, Mrs. Shalini Harisukh, Mrs. Ashima Nagpal, Mr. Mukesh Nagpal, Mr. Mohitendra Dey, Mr. Ajit Kumar, Mr. Shekhar, Mr. Anup, Mr. Thomas, Mr. Joseph and Mr. Shankar were present for the Award Distribution.The ceremony came to an end with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Sarika Kaushal.
