DIGEX 2016

Digex, the photography club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized its annual symposium on Saturday, 14th May 2016, in partnership with Canon. Digex, short for ‘digital excellence’, is the photography and film-making club, founded in 2009 by a group of photography enthusiasts. The event saw active participation of 50 schools across Delhi and NCR.

The Chief Guests for the occasion were Mr. Andrew Koh, Vice President, Consumer Imaging and Information Centre, Canon and Ms. Sandhya Chauhan, Regional Business Head at Canon India. The guests were welcomed by the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, the Vice Principals, Dr. Renu Nayar and Ms. Padma Srinivasan; Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Head of the Department, Computer Science and coordinator of the event; and the Digex Incharge, Ms. Sarika Kaushal.

The event began with the lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of the guests. The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal extended a warm welcome to all present and emphasized on the importance of participation over winning. This was followed by a short movie on the achievements of the Digex Club and a mime act performed by the Expressions Theatre Club. The Chief Guest, Mr.Koh addressed the gathering and expressed his views on the art of photography by saying -’photography is visual art’.

The event comprised of 4 competitive events, ‘A!SNAP’, ‘Freeze the Second’, ‘Click-a-Boo’ and ‘Frame-by-Frame’. The Canon team organized an interactive workshop, ‘Photo talk’ for teachers and students.

The judges of the events were Mr. Jasminder Oberoi, Mr. Nitish Pandey, Mr. Bharat Singh and Dr. Amit Chawla- representatives of the Canon India Team.

In the results tally, the ‘A!SNAP’ event was won by Presidium Gurgaon, while DPS. R.K. Puram and Step by Step had a tie for the second position and Apeejay Pitampura bagged the third position. Step by Step won the first prize in ‘Freeze the second’, followed by DPS Sushant Lok and Banyan Tree in the second and third place respectively. ‘Click-a-Boo’, which was a surprise event, was won by Ryan International Public School, Mayur Vihar, the second position was bagged by Amity International, Mayur Vihar while DPS R.K. Puram and DPS Noida had a tie for the third prize. DPS Dwarka secured the first position in the ‘Frame by Frame’, online movie making event followed by DPS Gurgaon Sector 45 and DPS Rohini in the second and third position respectively.

The event concluded with a mime act and AdsAct performed by the Expressions Theatre Club. A token of appreciation was given to the representatives of Canon Team India. The Chief Guest congratulated the school on the success of the event and mentioned that DPS R.K. Puram had become a part of the Canon family. Ms. Sandhya Chauhan , Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Head of the Department, Computer Science and Ms. Sarika Kaushal, Digex Incharge were present for the Award Distribution. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Sarika Kaushal.
The event served as an effective platform for all photography enthusiasts to share their interests and was an enriching experience for one and all.
