Saini and Headmistress Ms. Vanita Sehgal also expressed their keen interest by attending the cardiac workshop. Dr. Ashok Sardana, the speaker enlightened the students by distinguishing between Cardiac Arrest and Heart Attack i.e. Cardiac Arrest occurs when the heart malfunctions causing an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) and stops beating unexpectedly whereas a Heart Attack occurs when blood flow to the heart is blocked; a blocked artery prevents oxygen-rich blood from reaching the heart and the heart thus, begins to die. He also stated that ‘Fast action can save lives’ and ‘Every minute matters’. For a victim, calling 9-1-1 or EMS to get the emergency room in case of heart attack and starting CPR and using an AED ( Automated External Defibrillator)for a victim of cardiac arrest are the best viable first aid options to reverse and safe the life of a victim until he/she is carried to the hospital.
On the whole, The Heart Safety Awareness Programme was an educative event that informed the teachers and students about CPR- A life saving medical technique & First Aid.
