The High Commission of Canada, New Delhi, in partnership with Delhi Public School, R .K. Puram celebrated the Canada-India Friendship Day on August 14. This colourful event was marked by a presentation on educational opportunities in Canada, face-painting and a “best dressed” competition featuring the national colours of both countries.
This was the third in a series of Canada-India Friendship Days that the High Commission of Canada has been celebrating in the build-up to India’s Independence Day, for the past three years.
The chief guest on the occasion was the Acting High Commissioner of Canada, Mr. Jess Dutton. He was accompanied by Mr Robert Dutka, Second Secretary, Advocacy program; Ms Archana Mirajkar, Senior communications Officer; Ms Smriti Saxena, Media and communications Officer;
Mr Anuj Bhasin, Trade Commissioner, Education and Ms Jasvinder Kaur, Executive, Advocacy program. The guests were welcomed by the Principal, Dr. D.R Saini, the Vice Principals, Ms. Shobha Mehta and Mrs. Pushpa Agarwal and the headmistresses, Ms. Vanita Sehgal and Ms. Anita Singh.
The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp. The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini addressed the gathering and spoke of the significance of cultural exchange and stated that both the countries should be closer in this era of technology. Mr. Jess Dutton, in his interaction with the audience, emphasized the importance of strengthening Indo-Canadian bonds. The National Anthem of the two nations were sung.
The cultural program began with enchanting and scintillating dance performances by the students of the school. A short film highlighting the beauty of Canadian culture was presented by the Canada Tourism agency along with a Power Point Presentation on education opportunities in Canada This was followed by a quiz on Canada in which the students participated with great enthusiasm. A fashion walk was showcased incorporating the national colours of both the nations. Mallika Gupta of class XII recited a poem on friendship between the two countries. Last but not the least, the occasion ended with exciting face painting, turban tying and sessions of photography.
