Delhi Public School, R.K Puram organized a Business Studies workshop on Saturday, 14th May, 2011 on ‘The Updation of Teaching Methodology in Business Studies’. 25 Teachers from various renowned schools of Delhi and NCR were present. The chief guests were Dr. C.B. Gupta, Professor, Sri Ram College of Commerce and Mr M.M Goyal, Reader, P.G D.A.V College. The programme commenced with the sanskriti vandana and a prayer by the music choir. The Principal, Dr D.R Saini extended a warm welcome to everyone present. The Vice Principal, Mrs Shobha Mehta introduced the guests and emphasized on the need for such interactive sessions and exchange of ideas, and the need for teachers to create an interest in the subject amongst students through various activities.
Dr. C.B. Gupta addressed the gathering and started the session with key areas of concern like importance of conceptual clarity, ability to differentiate between closely related terms and definitions in Business Studies and understanding the practical aspects of the subject. The evolution of Human Resources studies, customer relation management, grapevine networks, strategic marketing , Principles of scientific management, staffing- selection tests for specific professionals, were some of the topics of discussion. He talked at length about Business Organisation, his field of expertise and how coordination was the essence of management. His examples correlated theoretical knowledge to everyday life and were hugely appreciated by the audience. He also mentioned the introduction of project work of 10 marks in Business Studies by the CBSE.
Mr M.M Goyal took over in the second part of the session. He introduced new terms and discussed varied topics such as portfolio management, mutual funds, options, forwards, debt service coverage ratio and odd let crediting. He also spoke about the fast changing financial markets – their social implications, impact of accounting policies on the profits of a firm, stock exchanges in India and settlement of transactions in their trading procedures and the organization structure of SEBI. This was followed by a question and answer session. It was a fruitful discussion with teachers taking a keen interest, enquiring, discussing and clarifying all their doubts. The workshop was coordinated by the Head of Business Studies department of DPS R.K.Puram, Mrs.Rashmi Malhotra and her team of teachers.
