The Business Studies Society of Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram organized a Business Studies Project Exhibition from 4th to 7th of December 2012. The exhibition consisted of projects and models crafted by commerce students of classes XI and XII on various topics like ‘Aids to Trade’, ‘Case study on a Product’, ‘Principles of Management’, ‘Business Environment’ and ‘Visit to a Mall or Industry’. CBSE has made it mandatory for Business Studies students to take up project work as it enables them to understand a topic and its application better than theoretical learning. The objective of these projects was to provide the students with exposure to the operational environment of business management through the use of modern technology and teamwork, amongst other important skills.
The chief guest for the event, on Day 1 was Dr. P.C Jain, educationist and Principal of Shri Ram College of Commerce. The Principal, Dr. D.R Saini , Vice-Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta and Head of Department of Business Studies, Mrs. Rashmi Malhotra, were also present on the occasion . The program commenced with a melodious Saraswati Vandana, performed by the Indian vocal choir of the school. A presentation was displayed and a short video was screened, during which students discussed the unforgettable experiences they had during the creation of the project. An entertaining skit followed, which demonstrated the various principles of management given by Henri Fayol as well as marketing concepts. Dr. Saini addressed the gathering and emphasized on the importance of practical learning in addition to theoretical concepts.
The chief guest, Dr P.C Jain took over the stage and extolled the excellent work of the students. He explained the importance of Business Studies as a subject and encouraged the students to actively participate in such events. Mrs.Shobha Mehta too commended the students for their hard work. Mrs. Rashmi Malhotra thanked the chief guest for gracing the occasion and expressed special gratitude towards the principal, vice principal, teachers and students for their assistance in going through with the venture.
The chief guest, Principal and Vice Principal went through the projects and praised students for their efforts and enthusiasm.
Day 2 saw Mr. Sandeep Sethi, Education Officer, CBSE as the special guest. He expressed his admiration for the students and their dedication towards the subject. He appreciated all Business Studies faculty members for taking the initiative which proved to be very beneficial for the students.
On Day 3, Mr. Anand Saxena, Reader at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College and member of the textbook committee at NCERT graced the occasion. Congratulating the students for their work, he spoke about how the subject could be made more interesting. He also explained to students of class XI the ways in which facts learnt during their research could be used in class XII exams. According to him, knowledge acquired through such activities tends to stay in one’s mind longer and benefits the individual.
The event was a great learning experience for the students.
