Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram hosted the 11th annual Business Mélange on 30th August 2013. The event was organized by the Business Studies Club of the school and is their flagship event. The event saw a massive participation of 50 schools from all over Delhi and the NCR. This year, the mélange comprised four events: the Commerce Quiz, the Visionnaire, the Ads Acts and the Caricature competition.
The chief guest was Dr. Poonam Verma, Principal of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies. The other esteemed judges were Mrs Amisha Aneja, Associate Professor at Lady Shri Ram College; Mrs Bhuvana Ravi, Director of Abhay Capital Services Pvt. Ltd; Dr. Mallika Kumar, Associate professor of Economics at Shri Ram College of Commerce and Dr. Sushila Madan, Associate Professor in Computer Science at Lady Shri Ram College.
The Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini heartily welcomed all the judges and participants. He emphasized on the fact that competition is not about winning or losing, but about putting in one’s best. The event was organized by Mrs Rashmi Malhotra, Head of the Business Studies Department and her team of teachers.
A mesmerizing Indian orchestra performance was followed by a scintillating classical dance. The Indian music choir had the audience spellbound, while the dance performance by the Jazz Club of the school, had students applauding enthusiastically.
The Ads Act saw 50 teams participating; advertising products such as Moody headphones, Harry Potter thinking hat and Mary Kom’s women safety. The performances had the audience in splits.
The Visionnaire and the Commerce Quiz were held simultaneously. In the Visionnaire, students had to create a presentation on a fictitious company and describe its purpose and vision. The Business quiz was the most intellectually challenging of all the competitions. It consisted of two rounds and started with a questionnaire. Only six teams cleared the preliminary round. The entries for the Caricature competition, however, were sent online.
Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram was declared the overall winner but being the host school, the trophy was given to New Era Public School. Montfort Public School won the first prize in the Ads Act. There was a tie at the second position between DPS R.K.Puram and DPS Noida with the prize being awarded to DPS Noida and the third position was bagged by DPS Vasant Kunj. New Era Public School bagged the first position in the Commerce quiz. The second and third positions were bagged by DPS Dwarka and Modern School, Barakhamba Road respectively. There was a tie at the first position for the Caricature completion between DPS R.K.Puram and Amity School, Noida but being the host school the trophy was handed over only to Amity School. Noida. The first prize in the Visionnaire went to Ryan International, Mayur Vihar followed by a tie at the second position between New Green Field School, Saket and DPS R.K.Puram. The third position was bagged by The Indian School. The prizes for the best interjectors went to Tagore International and Birla Vidya Niketan.
The event was a truly entertaining one and a learning experience for all the participants.
