The 10th Annual Business Mélange was organized on 24th August 2012 at DPS R.K.Puram. The event is organized every year by the Business Studies Club of the school. The mélange comprised of four events: The Commerce Quiz, the Just-A-Minute competition, the e-Poster Making competition and the Ads Act. Forty-three schools from all over Delhi and NCR took part.
Dr. P.C Jain, Principal, Shri Ram College of Commerce graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He has been the recipient of the best management teacher award in 2001.
The event commenced with a mesmerizing Indian orchestra performance followed by a melodious song by the school’s western music choir. The Indian music choir paid a tribute to our motherland while the dance performance by the Jazz Club of the school, had the audience spellbound.
The Principal, DPS R.K.Puram, Dr. D.R. Saini extended a warm welcome to everyone. According to him, “competition is not about winning or losing, but about putting in your best”. He asked the students not to take it as a competition but as a celebration as Business Mélange is the flagship event of the Business Studies Club of the school. The Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta also stressed on the importance of such an event for the students.
The Chief Guest, Dr. P.C Jain, addressed the gathering and praised the school for its various achievements. The judges for the Ads Act were Ms. Samridhi Mitra and Kanav Nayar, ex-students of DPS RK Puram and former members of Expressions Theatre Club. The Ads Act saw 41 teams participating, advertising products such as “Daya Door Lock“, “Einstein Hair Gel” and “Ghajini Memory Pills”. A few of the performances had the audience in fits of laughter. The Just-a-Minute Competition and the Commerce Quiz were held simultaneously. The judges for the Jam were Ms. Bhuvana Ravi and Mr. Avik Kedia. Ms Bhuvana is the Director, Abhay Capital Services Pvt. Ltd. and Mr.Kedia is the founder and CEO of Sanchayan Society and visiting faculty at MDI, Gurgaon. The Jam had interesting topics such as ‘Your most unhappy customer is your greatest source of learning’ , ‘social values go against the motive of profit’ , ‘long range planning works best in the short run’. The topics were given on the spot and the participants had 10 minutes to prepare. The Commerce Quiz was the most intellectual of the competitions. The entries for the e-Poster Making competition, however, were sent online.
DPS RK Puram was declared the overall winner but being the host school, the trophy was given to Ryan International School. DPS RK Puram won the first prize in the Ads Act competition but being the host school the prize was given to Vasant Valley School. The second and third positions were bagged by Modern School, Vasant Vihar and Apeejay School, Saket. Springdales, Dhaula Kuan won the first prize in the Just-A-Minute Session followed by Hansraj Model School and Laxman Public School in the second and third place respectively. The first prize in the e-Poster Making Competition was won by DPS R.K.Puram but went to DPS Dwarka with Ryan International School and DPS Noida coming second and third. The Commerce Quiz was won by Springdales, with DPS RK Puram and Amity International, Saket as second and New Era Public School as third. The judges, along with Ms. Rashmi Malhotra, the Head of Business Studies Department who coordinated the whole event with her team of teachers, distributed the prizes.
The event was a truly enriching experience for all the students.
