Peter F.Drucker said, “Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision”, and with this quote started the 9th annual Business Mélange 2011 hosted by Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram. The event is organized by the Business Studies Club of the school and is their flagship event. This year, the mélange comprised of four events: The Business Quiz, The Just-A-Minute Competition, The e-Poster Making Competition and the Ads Act.
Dr. Poonam Verma, Principal of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The other judges were Ms.Anuja Mathur, from the department of Business Studies at Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Ms.Bhuvana Ravi – member of the National Stock Exchange, Shreya Manocha, ex-student of DPS R.K Puram and former editor of the Business Studies Club; and Kanav Mayar, also an ex-student of the school.
The event commenced with the school band performing the song – “Bed of Roses”. A scintillating Odissi dance performance followed. The mesmerizing melodies of the “Saraswati vandana” had the audience spellbound, while the dance performance by the Jazz Club of the school, had students applauding enthusiastically. The tiny tots of DPS Shiksha Kendra, a school for the underprivileged run on the premises of DPS R.K.Puram, performed a dance – a tribute to our National Army.
The Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini heartily welcomed all the judges and participants. The Chief Guest, Dr.Poonam Verma shared her views with the students. According to her, “competition is not about winning or losing, but about putting in your best.”
The Ads Act saw 38 teams participating, advertising products such as “Goldy Disco Belt’, “Rajnikanth Anti-Ageing Cream”, “Hit Mosquito Repellent Phone”, “Tom and Jerry Friendship Band” and “Ghajini Memory Pills”. A few of the performances had the audience in fits of laughter. There were a few song and dance performances between the ads, to keep the audience entertained. The comperes, Ajitabh Singh and Sparsh Rana, of the Theatre Club of the school, also deserve a special mention for the way they kept the audience entertained with their antics and jokes on stage.
The Just-a-Minute Competition and the Business Quiz were held simultaneously. The Jam had interesting topics such as ‘Competition brings out the best in a business’, ‘If China is the world’s factory, then India is the world’s office’ and ‘A company is as good as the people it keeps’. The topics were given on the spot and the participants had 10 minutes to prepare. The Business Quiz was the most intellectual of the competitions. Dhruv Munjal (ex-secretary, Econox club) and Bharat Kathuria (former member, Business Studies club) were the two quiz masters. It consisted of 2 rounds and started with a questionnaire. Only six teams out of 35 cleared the preliminary round. The entries for the e-Poster Making competition, however, were sent online.
DPS R.K.Puram won the first prize in the Ads Act competition but being the host school, the trophy was given to DPS Vasant Kunj.
