The closing ceremony of the All India IPSC Swimming (Boys) and Basketball (Girls Under-19) Championship took place on 10th October in the school’s sports complex, The Chief Guest, was His Excellency Alphonsus Stoelinga, the Dutch Ambassader to India. The Principal, Dr. D.R Saini welcomed the chief guest. The other guests included Mr.Manoj Singhal, an educationist and entrepreneur; and the Principal of Modern School, Ms.Lata Vaidyanathan. Mrs .Pushpa Agarwal, Vice Principal, DPS Shiksha Kendra and Mr.Suresh, Head of the Physical Education department and the coordinator of the event, were also present on the occasion.
A few events of swimming were held. The audience was entertained with a song -‘Satbhavna’, a dance on ‘Jai ho’ and a mesmerising Marathi dance by the students of DPS R.K.Puram. The students of DPS Shiksha Kendra presented a dance depicting patriotism and the cultural programme ended with a song ‘Vande Mataram’. Addressing the gathering, the chief guest, His Excellency Alphonsus Stoelinga emphasised on the importance of sports and how it prepares one for life- ‘teaching important values like fair play and respect and acknowledgement of the talent of others’.
In the much awaited prize distribution, Harsh Yadav of DPS R.K.Puram was declared the best swimmer in the Boys under-19 category (with three new meet records) , while Chirag Singhal won in the boys Under-17. Tanmay Das of DPS Mathura Road was declared the best swimmer in the Boys Under-14 category with 2 new meet records. In the Girls Basketball category, Madhu of Modern School, Barakhamba Road was declared the best player. DPS R.K.Puram was the overall winner of the IPSC Swimming Championship while Modern School, Barakhamba Road emerged as the overall winner in the IPSC Basketball Championship.
The chief guest declared the meet closed. Mrs.Anuradha Dang, In-charge of Activities delivered the vote of thanks.
