Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized ‘आrohan- Ascent of the Young Minds’ – an Inter school debate on 10th and 11th August 2017. Around 38 schools from all over Delhi and the NCR participated in this two day competition. The event gave a platform for students from classes 6 to 8 to showcase their oratorical skills with powerful debates in Hindi as well as English.
The Headmistress, Ms. Rashmi Malhotra warmly welcomed the judges, Dr. Mita Bose, former Associate Professor of English at Indraprastha College, Ms. Kiran Misra, English Announcer for All India Radio and Ms Shraddha Adityavir Singh, English Lecturer at Zakir Hussain College on the first day of the event.
On the second day, Dr Mukul Sharma, Professor at Venkateshwar College, Ms Harsha Naya, Research Officer at the Central Hindi Directorate and Dr Kapil Sharma, Reporter and Anchor at Aaj Tak were the honoured chief guests. The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, in her address to the gathering, emphasised on the importance of learning to achieve greater heights. Also present on the occasion were the Coordinators of the English and Hindi Department, Dr.Atika Dayal and Mrs.Jyoti Bakshi and their team of teachers who organized the debate.
Competitors delivered eloquent debates and formidable arguments, on the topics, ‘Progress is a double-edged sword’ and ‘धन ही लक्ष्य तक पहुंचाता है’. The students participated in teams of two, one speaking for and the other against the motion, exemplifying the qualities of a top-notch debater in their own distinct way.
The First position in the English Debate was bagged by Seher Taneja of Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan, with Aryaman Jaiman from Apeejay School, Sheikh Sarai in the second and Pooja Saluja of Delhi Public School, Noida in the third position. Apeejay School, Sheikh Sarai emerged as the best team.
In the Hindi debate, Arshia Bhatnagar from DPS Sushant Lok bagged the first prize, whereas Ananya Agarwal from DPS Vasant Kunj and Saumya Maheshwari from Banyan Tree School got the second and the third prizes respectively. The trophy for the best team was awarded to Banyan Tree School. The overall ‘Aarohan – Ascent of Young Minds’ trophy was bagged by DPS Noida.
