Career Counseling And A Stream Selection Session
DPS R.K. Puram organized a career counseling and a stream selection session for the students & parents of class IX on 22 December, 2020. The session was conducted by a team from Mindler.com , a recognized brand in the education sector.
The resource person Ms. Shilpa Singh and Ms. Vaishnavi Chandran conducted the session through zoom online portal . She emphasized that one must have in-depth knowledge of the choices lest one might end-up in a career that is not made for one. It is common among students going through this transition phase to get influenced by misinformation and end up choosing the wrong stream. She advised the parents to not to base their decisions on their own perceptions and let the child explore the various dimensions according to his/her own interest. They were made aware of the different options of profession and courses that could be pursued based on the subject choice they can make. Queries raised by the students were addressed by Ms. Shilpa Singh.
The Headmistress Ms. Rashmi Malhotra proposed the vote of thanks to the team from Mindler.com for providing an enriching and highly informative session. She also thanked the school technical team for helping to organise and conduct the event on the online platform and making it a success.
“All is Well”- Conversation with the Counsellors
An interactive online session was organised on 23rd December, 2020, Wednesday for the parents of Class VI – VIII on the topic of “All is Well”- Conversation with the Counsellors.
Ms. Mimansa Singh Tanwar, Clinical Psychologist at Fortis Hospital conducted the session on mental health and wellbeing of students and parents during these difficult Covid Times. The session began with a welcome note by Ms. Niva Chhonkar, Headmistress.She highlighted the importance of trying to shape each day to make it positive, creative,exciting and rewarding.
Speakers weaved the session around on how to maintain mental wellbeing by various ways of taking good care of self, taking frequent breaks from regular regime, involving the self in hobbies and rejuvenation activities. Questions from both the students and parents were answered by the team.
Ms Kanika S. Madan, Ms Kaveri Dhar, Ms Preeti Pratihari and Ms Divya Bablani of the Psychology Department organised the session.This interactive session was appreciated by the parents.
India Fest 2020

The Social Science Department of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organised the vibrant ‘India Fest 2020’ with the theme ‘Back to Our Roots’ on 26 December 2020. It was an effort to celebrate the cultural diversity of India and to showcase the talent and artistic creativity of students from schools across Delhi NCR, on the virtual Google Meet platform. 277 participants from 46 schools participated in the event, making it a great success.
The event encapsulated the essence of patriotism and an overall love for India’s rich heritage, expressed through various events.
Weave A Story was a story writing and telling competition, wherein students participated in teams of two and were required to enact original scripts, supported by relevant pictures, on the topic ‘India of My Dreams’, within the time limit of 3 minutes. Participants presented creative and passionate skits, potently presenting their unique and varying interpretations of the topic.
They were judged based on suitability of captions, creativity, interpretation of the message, interweaving of the message with the photographs, and overall impact, by accomplished freelance writers Ms. Mariam Karim Ahlawat and Ms. Divya Dubey. The results of the event are as follows:

The jury comprising Dr. Sutapa Dutta, Mr. Avichal Bhatnagar, Ms. Priya Sharma and Ms. Manpreet Sachdeva judged the participants on the basis of relevance to the topic, accuracy, fluency and adherence to the time limit. Further on, The India Quiz was a general knowledge quiz on India with six rounds ‒ Bharat Ek Khoj, Buniyad, Yahan Ke Hum Sikandar, Surag, Turning Point and Mega-Connect. The students answered enthusiastically, and many questions required a vigorous racking of the brain and exercising one’s spontaneous thinking. Participants were judged on the basis of their accuracy and ability to answer the questions within the allotted time limit by quizmasters Mr. Manav Kapoor and Mr. Nishant Nanda.

Finally, in the inter-school role play competition Mahan Vibhutiyon Se Sakshatkar– students portrayed characters from Indian mythology with commendable fervour. Witnessing the participants in their traditional dresses embodying the various characters was truly enchanting, and successfully transported all spectators to the time-periods they depicted. The jury of Pt. Vidya Prasad Mishra, Acharya Pt. Chavi Krishan Arya, Mrs. Suchitra Gupta and Mr. Neeraj Sharma judged the participants based on presentation, knowledge and application of facts, acting skills, reasons presented to justify the character’s actions, and overall impact. The Valedictory Ceremony took place on 27 December 2020, and began with an address by the Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan. She applauded the students for their commendable and enthusiastic performances, specifically emphasizing on how, despite these unprecedented trying times, the flame of their enthusiasm and vigour was burning bright. She also stressed on the theme of the event and spoke about the importance of being grounded and attached to one’s roots to progress in life She further thanked the teachers incharge, whose diligent efforts made the event a possibility.
The ceremony was an amalgamation of song, dance, and voice-overs by the students of DPS R.K. Puram, who highlighted the cultural diversity and inherent beauty that is individualistic to India as a country. The prize-winners for the various events were announced, and duly lauded.
The Vice Principal , Dr Renu Nayar proposed the vote of thanks and thanked all participants for their wholehearted participation.She complimented all the schools participating for the effort put in spite of these unprecedented times.She also thanked the social studies department for putting up a grand show.The event was a success and a cherished memory for all those who were a part of it.

Fireside Chat with Mr Joy Bandekar
The Economics, Business Studies and Accountancy Departments along with the Enship Club of Delhi Public School RK Puram organised a series of virtual webinars on the topic ‘My Entrepreneurial Experience’ in the month of December.
The fourth webinar in the series was organised on December 26, 2020 for the students of Class IX and XI. The guest speaker was Mr. Joy Bandekar, Founding Partner, Udaan.com, a B2B ecommerce platform. Mr Bandekar has over 25 years of experience across various industries, including 11 years in e-commerce across India and South East Asia. Prior to Udaan, he was working with Ola where he was the President – New Initiatives.
With a Master’s in Business Management and a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mr Bandekar has worked at senior positions with large Indian and multinational organisations like Kirloskar, Reliance Industries, Maxworth Orchards and Atcom Technologies, eBay, Flipkart and Ola in his career spanning over 25 years.
The webinar was attended by the Vice Principal, Dr Renu Nayar and Headmistress, Ms Rashmi Malhotra, HODs of the Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics Department along with several teachers of the said departments. While addressing the audience, the Headmistress MD Rashmi Malhotra spoke of the importance of such webinars to motivate and inspire students to take a dive into the entrepreneurial world.
The compère, Ashmi Shriya (11N), began the webinar by cheerfully welcoming all attendees. The webinar was conducted in the format of a Fireside chat by Aarushi Gupta (11M) and Mridul Malani (11M). During the fireside chat, Mr Joy Bandekar patiently answered questions about his experiences as a successful entrepreneur with a wide range of businesses. He offered very pertinent and valuable insight into the world of startups explaining technical terms in a manner that the students could relate to and understand easily.
This was followed by a Question Answer session conducted by Ketavpriya Bansal (11N) where Mr Bandekar answered questions asked by the participants of class IX and XI.
The webinar concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms Shelly Malhotra.

Digital Library @DPS RKP
DPS RK Puram is delighted to announce the launch of its new ‘Digital Library’ with a repository of approximately 1000 books of different genres, from Classics to Best Sellers for all Classes VI to XII.
Students will now be able to access this library of 200 plus books for each class. The links for the books are already sent on official email ids of all the students.

Parth Kumar of Class X-K secured the Second position in The Indian School – Sanskrit Vachan Kaushal pratiyogita, an event held on 22nd of December,2020 which saw almost 22 participants compete for the coveted prize.Parth was awarded a certificate of appreciation and a cash prize of Rs 3000 in the Sanskrit award function held on 8th of January,2021.

Scholar Badge Ceremony Class IX-2020

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted the annual Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class IX on 19 December 2020 via the virtual platform of Zoom. This year’s event derived its theme from a Pablo Picasso quote – “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”
The esteemed Chief Guest for the day was Ms. Namita Pradhan, Member of the Delhi Public School Society and the Managing Committee of DPS R.K. Puram.
Mr. Dharmendra Sharma, the Senior Deputy Election Commissioner, and alumnus of DPS R.K. Puram, kindly consented to be the Guest of Honour.
The event commenced with the symbolic lighting of the lamp, followed by an upbeat and welcoming orchestral performance by the talented instrumentalists of the Western Music Society.
A short film highlighting the wide-ranging achievements of the students, undeterred by the unique challenges of this neoteric academic session, was presented.
In her welcoming address, the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, congratulated the recipients of the various awards and commended the students’ exceptional performance in both academic and extracurricular fields. According to her, the diverse and holistic education provided at R.K. Puram complements and supplements classroom learning. She motivated students to identify where their aptitude lay and work diligently towards achieving excellence in their field of choice. Ms. Srinivasan also expressed her sincere appreciation and gratitude towards the teaching staff and faculty, whose dedication and hard work allowed classes and activities to continue despite unique and challenging circumstances. She concluded her address by thanking parents and students for their unwavering support and willingness to adapt in these unprecedented times.
This was followed by a graceful dance performed by the students of the Indian Dance Society on the popular Odia folk song ‘Rangabati’.
The Chief Guest, Ms. Namita Pradhan commended the staff and faculty of DPS R.K. Puram for reaching out to students and ensuring the continuation of stimulating extracurricular and academic activities despite the limitations and complications posed by the new platforms. According to Ms. Pradhan, there is an advantage to being confined to one’s home; in that, it forces one to seek out and develop new interests, and acquire new skills. She confessed to wishing this event were occurring in person and expressed her desire to see the bright and proud faces of students on stage and parents in the audience. She also discussed the importance of cherishing one’s school friends and keeping them close throughout life, and shared her experiences regarding the same. She concluded her address by emphasising the importance of hard work, imagination and drive, and encouraged the young scholars never to limit their ambitions.
Mr. Dharmendra Sharma, the Guest Of Honour, began his address by stating he was “suitably impressed and notably intimidated” by the wide-ranging achievements of the bright young minds present. He emphasised the importance of recognising and celebrating all-round excellence in areas such as drama, sport, debate, and dance side-by-side to celebrating academic accomplishments. He encouraged the young students to find time for moments of fun and relaxation and avoid becoming too stressed either as a consequence of the uncertain times we are facing or their hectic schedules. He concluded by re-stating the significance of following one’s passions and working hard to achieve them, with the simple quote – ‘Aim for it, go for it.’
The eagerly awaited award ceremony commenced with the felicitation of the Armaan Dogra Memorial Award (awarded to one student from each class IX batch for all-round excellence) to Aadya Kashyap of IX K, followed by the awarding of the First Blue Badge/Blue Blazer/ Red Tie/Red Badge to numerous proud recipients. It was conducted by the Class Representatives of Class IX, Ms. Payal Arora and Mr. Sanchit Chauhan.
The vote of thanks was proposed by the Headmistress Ms. Rashmi Malhotra, wherein she thanked the honorable guests for sparing time from their busy schedules to inspire all present with their kind words. She congratulated the students and parents and thanked them for their attendance. She also extended her gratitude to the coordinator Mr. Mukesh Kumar, the technical team, the Activity Incharges Ms. Binu Channan and Ms. Kaveri Dhar, Mr. Daniel and Mr. Lemmy from the Music Department, and the Representatives of Class IX for working tirelessly to make the event possible.
The ceremony concluded with the national anthem.
Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Campaign
Antimicrobial Awareness Campaign was organised for school children by DirectorateGeneral Health service, Government of India in association with WHO country office for India, NCDC(National Centre for Disease control) and DSPRUD( Delhi Society for Rational use of Drugs). For this Two Teachers MS Kajal Sethi ( Biology Department) and Ms Shruti Gupta (Chemistry Department) were trained online on the theme- “United we stand to preserve the Antimicrobials”.
Both the teachers conducted online sessions for the students of classes VII, VIII , IX and XI, where they were sensitized about Antimicrobial Awareness through slideshare , discussion with the class teacher and followed by a quiz.
Student’s benefited by such useful and valuable information. This also helps them to create awareness about the practices /ways which will avoid further emergence and stoppage of spread of Antimicrobial resistance .
Students also took the pledge in joining the hands in combating antimicrobial resistance
Overall Coordination was done by Ms Niva Chhonkar,HM & Head of the Biology Deptt.
Certificates and gifts containing AMR messages will be given to top ten participating school, Principals and Science teachers participating in awareness programmes
Students were also motivated to participate in the event “Ideathon” which had various activities like poster making/painting, poem/slogan writing, cartoon making and video making. Our school secured first position in poster making and cartoon making events. Some of the entries are attached below.
‘My Entrepreneurial Experience’
The Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics departments along with the Enship Club of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram organised a series of webinars on the topic ‘My Entrepreneurial Experience’ in the month of December.
The third webinar in the series was organised on 19th December 2020 for the students of classes IX and XI. The guest speaker for the session was Mr. Shubham Goel, the co- founder of AFFINITY, the leading relationship and intelligence platform, based in Silicon Valley. His platform is being used by 1300 customers globally and he has achieved the milestone of raising 50 million USD. Mr. Goel is an expert in artificial intelligence and he believes in the power of computers and technology to bring humans together and forge deeper and meaningful personal and professional relationships. He was also featured in Forbes 30 under 30 USA and Canada in 2019.
Mr. Goel is an alumni of DPS R.K. Puram, Batch of 2012. He described his involvement in Exun and MatSoc as skills that support him in practical life and described his journey as enriching and exhilarating in school. He did his undergraduate course from Stanford University in computer science and graduated early to start Affinity, on which he has been working for 5 years now.
The Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan, Vice Principal, Dr Renu Nayar and the Headmistress, Mrs.Rashmi Malhotra were present for the occasion. The Principal warmly welcomed the guest speaker while encouraging students to take valuable lessons from the session which could help them in getting a new perspective. The Vice Principal spoke on the importance of such inspiring webinars to influence the students to achieve the extraordinary. The Headmistress encouraged students to take inspiration and accordingly prepare themselves to meet the requirements of a successful position in the Business World.
Mr. Shubham Goel addressed the audience with a thought provoking and insightful meaning of entrepreneurship, and the magic unfurled as he shared his experiences. He glorified failures as the medium of learning from his mistakes and shortcomings, only to rise up more than ever before. Failures build a stronger foundation, they make us more resilient and more hard working, and they spark the flame of passion within us to continue,until the goal has been accomplished.
The webinar was conducted in the format of an interactive session by Praanjal Arora (XI-S), Anushka Gautam (XI-S), Tulip Mittal (XI-S) and Anhad Sood (XI-S). During the interactive session, Mr. Shubham Goel shared his ordeals, his marketing strategies and the application of knowledge in practical life. He explained his journey blending it with inspiring words for budding entrepreneurs. Lastly, a Q&A session consisting of questions asked by the participants was also conducted .
The webinar concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Reena Mehta.
