‘Gold Finalist’ Award

In June 2020, the Royal Commonwealth Society of London organized an essay writing competition for students. The theme of the 2020 competition was ‘Climate Action and the Commonwealth’. Praniti Gulyani of XI-U was awarded the ‘Gold Finalist’ award for her essay entitled ‘Change – A Way of Life’, out of over 13,000 entries worldwide.

Guest Speaker Programme

The Geography Department organised a Guest Speaker Programme on 10 June 2020. Prof.Sucharita Sen enlightened the audience with her vast knowledge of agriculture and gave great inputs on the understanding of land resource management. She cleared the doubts of Class XII students on reduction on gender employment, land use pattern, excessive use of chemical fertilizers and percolation of toxic nitrates etc. She spoke at length about subsidies and effects of globalization, farmers committing suicides, market prices and also gene revolution. Her Research experiences of fieldwork gave in-depth knowledge of ground-level realities to the students and the teaching faculty. It was an enriching experience.

Geography Department-nature Before And After Lockdown

The Geography Department organised an Intersection Powerpoint Presentation Activity on 12 June 2020 for Class XI, Where each participant expressed his thoughts and showcased it with the help of a Powerpoint Presentation on the subject – Nature before and after Lock. Four students participated in the online event from different parts of the country, despite network issues in these trying times. The presentations were thought-provoking and full of interesting facts. The event was judged by Ms Arti Trivedi and Ms Mahima Goel and coordinated By Mrs Sangita Bajpai and Mrs Vinita Gupta. Mrs Rupa Das, HOD Geography Department addressed the students with words of encouragement.

Career Counselling Session for Parents of Class X students

A Virtual Career Counselling session was organized by DPS R.K.Puram for parents of class X students of sections (H-O) on 22 May 2020 & 23 May 2020 to explore the various career options for students in all the three streams Science, Commerce and Humanities. 


The Principal, Ms.Padma Srinivasan addressed the parents and encouraged them to facilitate the students to identify their interests and skills in order to choose their career. The Headmistress, Ms Rashmi Malhotra welcomed all parents to the online session. 


The speaker for the session was Mr Saurabh Nanda from Pratham. He is an Engineer with a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology. He has passionately devoted his time to education and counselling for the last 8-9 years after a stint in the corporate world.


Mr Nanda shared his extensive knowledge of various career options, opportunities and challenges that come with each combination of subjects. He also explained very diligently the importance of Class X in career planning. The entire session was not only informative but also opened up various avenues for the students to explore in order to plan their career.


The session was wrapped up with an interactive Question & Answer round which witnessed a lot of enthusiastic participation from the parents. 

Career Counselling Session for students of Class X

Career decisions play a pivotal role in shaping the future growth and development of students. Keeping this in mind, virtual career counselling sessions were organised by D.P.S R. K. Puram for the students of Class X (A-G) on 22 May 2020 and(H-O) 23 May 2020. The purpose of this session was to guide them about how to plan a systematic study schedule for Class X and maximise their potential in current times. 

The session began with the Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan addressing the audience. Later the Headmistress, Ms Rashmi Malhotra addressing emphasized on the need to have a balanced approach and the right combination of one’s skills with one’s interest in choosing one’s career. The session was conducted by Mr Jitin Chawla, an MBA from FMS, New Delhi. He is the founder of the Centre for Career Development and has been counselling students for over 18 years. 

The session involved discussions on what skills could be developed and how students could use this time to build their educational profile. Mr Chawla shared different ways in which social media can be used more effectively and efficiently to learn and highlighted the importance of regulating the time spent on social media carefully. This was further extended to a discussion and sharing of ideas with the students on various courses and online applications available to add to one’s repertoire of qualifications.

He also discussed careers in Sciences, especially with Biology branches of medicine that a student can explore including Dentistry, Naturopathy, Homeopathy and Ayurveda. He further shaped the session into talking about various fields of engineering emphasizing on Artificial Intelligence and Data Science to be the most flourishing areas of study in the near future. Diverse Career Options in Commerce and humanities fields such as Law, Banking, Entrepreneurship, Travel and Tourism, Digital Marketing, Management, CS, CA were also discussed along with the subjects that would help in establishing in these areas. 

Mr Chawla addressed the current situation of global pandemic Covid-19 and encouraged students to explore new careers that would be open post-pandemic. These careers revolved around natural sciences such as Computational Biology, Hydrology, Epidemiology, Medical Scientists, etc. The session concluded with an interactive question & answer round which was moderated by the school counsellor, Ms Kanika. The session experienced active involvement of students with 95.8 % participation on 22-05-20 and 83.6 % participation on 23-05-20. 

Art Department-“A Positive Thought”

CLASS XII

The Art Department organised an intersection virtual event on 10th June 2020, for Class XII “A POSITIVE THOUGHT” focusing upon positivity and optimism during the present scenario and circumstances. The students were required to design a ‘Book Cover’ on the given positive quotes. Topics were declared 15 minutes before the commencement of the competition. 

The participating students presented their ideas in the form of Artworks. The allotted time duration was one hour. 

The Artwork was judged on the criteria of Handling of the Media, Relevance to the Topic/Theme and Aesthetic Value/Visual Appeal by a team of senior faculty members- Ms Binu Channan (English Department) and Mr Amit Rajput (HOD, Art Department). 

The judges addressed the students and motivated them with valuable words of appreciation and advice. The Teacher in-charge Ms Preeti Pratihari (Psychology Department) presented and conducted the event. On behalf of the Art Department, She also thanked the Principal/Vice-Principal/Reps/Support team for providing the students with such a wonderful platform to showcase their talents.

‘Lyrical Poesy’ -Online Event

In the words of Mathew Arnold, “Poetry is simply the most beautiful, impressive and widely effective mode of saying things.” In these trying times, poetry comes as a healing potion to reconcile us to our world and to allow us a measure of tenderness and grace with which to exist. 

The English Department of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organised a set of online and offline competitions for the students of Class XI. The online event ‘Lyrical Poesy’ was organised on June 12, 2020. The students were asked to choose one from four well-known poems to recite. The students participated with enthusiasm and infused life in those lines by their riveting voice modulation and verbal expressions. The judges evaluated the participants on the basis of clarity, overall presentation and expression.

The next event was the offline event- ‘Encasing with Patterns’. This event dealt with designing a cover for a lesson students have already covered in this class. This event gave our budding artists a canvas to showcase their creativity. They were judged on the basis of their choice of medium, overall impact and aesthetic appeal.

Digital Presentation

The Mathematics Department of Delhi Public School RK Puram organised a DIGITAL PRESENTATION Competition for students of Classes XI and XII on 8th June 2020. The students were given topics like “Mathematics in Music”, ‘Probability-The guide to choice making’, “ Mathematics and Technology’, ‘Role of Mathematics in current scenario’, ‘Applications of Matrices’. The children were asked to make a presentation on any of these topics or any other topic of their choice. They were asked to present the topic of their choice in front of the judges. Each team was allotted 3-4 minutes to present. They could either present individually or as a team of two.

MAGAZINE COVER DESIGN COMPETITION

A Magazine Cover Design competition was organised by the Mathematics Department on 9th June 2020 for students of classes XI and XII. Each participant had to design a cover of a math magazine. The design of the cover can be either handmade or using software. The participant had to present the cover and also talk about his thought process behind the design of the cover in front of the judges.

GUEST SPEAKER PROGRAMME

The Mathematics Department of Delhi Public School R.K.Puram under the guidance of Mr.Anil Kathuria, Head of the Department organised a Guest Speaker Programme on 10th and 11th June 2020 for the students of class XI and XII. The guest speaker Dr.Jonaki Ghosh, a lecturer at the Department of Elementary Education, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi, spoke on the topic Mathematical Explorations: Developing Mathematical Thinking Through Problem Solving. She discussed the problems of the chessboard, The Friendship Theorem, The Monty Hall Problem and Coin Weighing Problem with the students. Dr Jonaki Ghosh also discussed how a mathematical model helps in predicting the spread of an epidemic in context to the pandemic we all are going through. The children interacted with the guest and answered the questions put to them by the speaker. The Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan and Vice Principal, Dr.Renu Nayar graced the occasion with their presence.

“CHIDRANVESHI” – Roleplay from the epic, The Mahabharata

The History Department organised an intersection competition “CHIDRANVESHI” – “Roleplay from the epic, The Mahabharata for the History students of  Class XII on 9th June 2020. 

The event saw enthusiastic participation from the students who dressed up in colourful Theatrical costumes for the role play. They were judged on their knowledge and application of facts, Presentation, Reasons given in support, Acting skills and the Overall impact.

The event was coordinated by Ms Shruti Mishra and Ms Shaloo Khanna and judged by Pt. Vidya Prasad Mishra, a senior research faculty member at Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts. 

Pt.Vidya Prasadji is amongst the few modern exponents of the Vedas, who have a deep insight into the terse Vedic corpus. He was greatly impressed by the performances given by the students and appreciated the choice of topic for the competition.

DHAROHAR -Online Competition

An online virtual competition,  “Dharohar” was organised on the 9th of June, 2020 for the history students of class XI, in which the students were required to submit a paper on the topic “ Scientific ways of cleanliness in Indian tradition – How relevant are they in COVID times today”. 

This was an individual event. The participants were asked to express their views in front of the judges. The time limit for the presentation was 2 minutes. The participants were judged on the basis of Content and Context Presentation Style, Relevance and Analysis of the topic and Diction.

The coordinators for the event were Ms Shruti Mishra and Ms Sapna Sharma. The Judges for the event were Ms Shruti Talwar and Ms Shalu Khanna. Ms Shruti Mishra addressed the students and motivated them with her valuable words of wisdom. Ms Sohini Chakravarty proposed the Vote of Thanks at the end of the programme.
