A ship is safe at the shore, but it is not built to be there. It simply means that to fulfil our true purpose in life we need to step out and make our way in the world. Just like a ship, if we stay at port we will be comfortable; but we will rot and become nothing more than a hollow vessel which did not reach its destination. It is possible that we may ‘sink’, but some dangers are worth facing. Life is nothing if we don’t take risks. We attain a meaning only by experiencing everything life has to offer, even if it may not be the best of things. While it is true that to take all risks would be foolhardy, there are some worth taking. Yet which are the risks worth taking?
