Guest Speaker Programme for Class VI

Mr. Deepak Gaur, Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at Jawaharlal Nehru University visited the school on 8th February 2017. Addressing the students of class 6, he talked about issues of health and hygiene. He also explained that the most effective way to keep away from illness is to maintain a good personal hygiene. His lecture dealt with the ways in which obesity can harm all age groups and can cause multiple diseases like high BP, diabetes and heart problems.

He also showed a short video on how vaccines are important and can prevent various diseases.He explained the disadvantages of the usage of mobile phones and how hazardous they can be to human life.He warned everyone not to eat junk food which has it’s own harmful effects.

His lecture was wonderful and precise covering all aspects of health and hygiene.



India Quiz 2017 – An Inter School Quiz On India

The Social Science Department of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted the inaugural edition of the India Quiz on 11th February 2017. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of schools across the city.

The Quiz comprised three rounds. The preliminary written round was followed by two semi finals and the final rounds. The audience wholeheartedly participated in the “Audience Round” and the winners were awarded books and chocolates.

The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal thanked all the participating schools for their keen participation. Addressing the students, she expressed her love for history, and emphasized the importance of humanities.
Ms. Vanita Sehgal and Ms. Padma Srinivasan gave away the prizes. Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan bagged the third position, Delhi Public School, Rohini came second while Gyan Bharati School, Saket were the winners of the Quiz.

The vote of thanks was delivered by the Vice Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan. She thanked the programme coordinators, Ms. Vandana Chandhoke and Ms. Rupa Das and the entire Social Science Department for making this event a grand success. Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram plans to make the India Quiz an annual event. The programme concluded with the national anthem.



Guest Speaker Programme

The Department of Hindi organized a Guest Speaker Programme on 31st January 2017 in the A.V.H.

The Chief Guest was Dr. Harish Chopra, acclaimed author, who has been awarded several times, and is currently a Lecturer in Delhi University.

Dr. Chopra addressed the students of class of 8th and 10th . He emphasized on the use of Hindi and the options available for children in the future along with its prospects. He made the children realize that they shouldn’t forget their very own mother tongue, Hindi. He shone light on the fact that Hindi should be a part of one’s personality as an Indian. Mrs Jyoti Bakshi, the Head of Hindi Department welcomed the Guest and motivated the students to take Hindi as their optional subject, in 9th and 11th, as well. Mrs Fatma Kirmani, the Prgramme Incharge delivered the vote of thanks.



Inter-School Foreign Language Fest- “Die Kotoba Potpourri Fragante” 2017

‘Die Kotoba Potpourri Fragante’, an Inter-School Foreign Language Fest was held at Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram on 4th February 2017 to inculcate love for foreign languages in students. Students of Classes VI to X, from 21 schools across the city, participated in the various competitive events held in the French, German, Japanese and Spanish languages.

The fest comprised eight events, two for each language. In French, ‘Enact a Fable’ and ‘Role Play’ were held. Students of Japanese competed in ‘Fancy Dress ‘and ‘Just-a-Minute’ contest. ’Ad Zap’ and ‘Show and Tell’ were held in Spanish. ‘A Character Portrayal’ and ‘TV Show’ were held in German.

Ms. Marisol Perez Carranza, Deputy Chief of the Mission, Embassy of Chile; Mme Marie Doublier, Attaché for Cooperation in Education; Mr. Kousuke Noguchi, Director, Japanese Language and Japanese Studies/Intellectual Exchange; and Mrs. Shaswati Mazumdar, Professor,  Department of Germanic and Romance Studies, Delhi University were the chief guests for Spanish, French, Japanese and German categories respectively.

The panel of judges for the French events included Ms. Swati Dasgupta, Faculty of French at the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies, Delhi University; Ms. Babusha Verma, Professor, French Language and Literature at Delhi University; Ms. Shilpa Gupta, Assistant Professor at O.P. Jindal University and Ms. Pooja Arora, Assistant Professor at Amity University. The German judges were Ms.Manisha Buttan and Ms.Sakshi Puri, Assistant Professors at Amity University, Noida; Ms.Chanchal Bhatia and Ms.Shivani Gupta, German teachers at Max Mueller Bhavan. Mr.Carlos Valmaseda, Library Head, Instituto Cervantes and Ms.Mabel Perez Carranza, Professor, Instituto Cervantes were the judges for the Spanish events. Ms. Ayumi Morris, Visiting Lecturer and Mr. Masaaki Tachiki, Volunteer JICA presently associated with the Department of East Asian Studies, Faculty of Social Science, University of Delhi judged the Japanese events. Present on the occasion were the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal and the Vice Principal, Ms. Anita Singh who was incharge of the programme. Also present were the programme coordinators, Mrs. Nita Vijay Kumar, Mrs.Surbhi Gaur, Mrs Payal Arora and Ms Arushi Manchanda.

The valedictory function commenced with the felicitation of the chief guests by the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal. It was followed by a mesmerizing fusion dance. A report on the events that took place during the day was displayed. The Principal, Ms Sehgal addressed the gathering. She expressed her view that every language one knows adds to the knowledge of the individual and broadens one’s horizon. In her words, “this event is a way of bringing all the cultures and students together.” The winning entries of few events performed their acts which were greatly appreciated by everyone. A beautiful and melodious German song was sung by the school’s choir. The chief guests then expressed their views on the event. Ms. Marisol Perez Carranza found it, “wonderful to see children learning another language”. According to Ms. Marie Doublier, “learning other languages is necessary so that there is global harmony.” Mr. Kousuke Noguchi thought of the event as an attempt to, “bring all the languages and schools together.” The school’s French Club released its annual magazine, ‘Le Crayon d’Or’.

The French event, ‘Enact a Fable’ was won by DPS R.K. Puram while DPS Noida came second followed by DPS Rohini. The Role Play was won by DPS R.K. Puram. DPS Vasant Kunj and DPS Rohini were the first and second runners-up respectively. The overall winners in the French category was DPS Rohini.

DPS Maruti Kunj bagged the first position in ‘Character Portrayal’ while Ahlcon International came second. DPS Rohini came third. The ‘TV Show’ saw Bal Bharti Public School bagging the first position. The first and second runners-up were DPS Vasant Kunj and Ahlcon International respectively. In the German category, the overall winners were Ahlcon International.

The ‘Fancy Dress’ winner was DPS R.K. Puram while DPS Maruti Kunj and Salwan Public School came second and third respectively. In ‘Just a Minute’, DPS R.K. Puram came first. Salwan Public School and Meenakshi Public School were the first and second runners-up. The overall winner in the Japanese category was Salwan Public School.

 The ‘Show and Tell’ was won by DPS R.K. Puram. G.D. Goenka came second while DPS International, Saket came third. The Ad Zap saw DPS Noida defeating everyone while DPS International, Saket and G.D. Goenka came second and third respectively. The overall winners in the Spanish category was DPS International, Saket.

The Vice Principal, Ms. Anita Singh delivered the vote of thanks. She thanked the chief guests and the judges for their valuable time. She congratulated the winners and the participants and also told them that, “winning isn’t everything and participation is what matters the most.” The event concluded with the national anthem.

The event was a great attempt in bringing students speaking different languages on a single platform and giving them an opportunity to showcase their talents.



The 9th Armaan Dogra Memorial Inter-School Football Tournament 2017

The closing ceremony of the 9th Armaan Dogra Memorial Inter-School Football Tournament was held at DPS R.K. Puram on 3rd February 2017. Armaan was a meritorious student of the school, who met with an untimely death. He was an all-rounder and played football passionately. His warmth and exuberance are remembered by all his friends. The tournament is held annually in his memory. Fourteen schools participated in the three-day event.

The various dignitaries present included the Chief Guest, Mr Kapil Dev, the former captain of the Indian cricket team; Mr Pramod Grover, Vice Chairman, Managing Committee, DPS RK Puram and Honorary Treasurer, DPS Society; Dr Shaji Prabhakaran, author and former Regional Head, South and Central Asia for FIFA; Sqn Ldr S.S. Hakeem, the only Indian sportsman who is a football Olympian and an International referee; Ms Oinam Bembem Devi, captain of the Indian Football team at the 11th South Asian Games 2010 and the SAFF Women’s Championship 2012; Mrs Meenakshi Pahuja, Associate Professor at Lady Shri Ram College and an All India Inter-University medalist in swimming; Mr Samip Rajguru, Executive Editor – Sports at India TV channel; Dr. M.C Mishra, Director of AIIMS; Mr John Robinson from Asian News, and Armaan’s parents ,Dr and Mrs P.N. Dogra. Also present were the Principal, Ms Vanita Sehgal, and the Vice Principals, Dr Renu Nayar ,Ms Padma Srinivasan and Ms Anita Singh, and Mr.N.Suresh, Head of the Physical Education department with his team of teachers.

The event began with the lighting of the lamp. The Principal, Ms Vanita Sehgal warmly welcomed all the guests and expressed her appreciation for Dr. and Mrs Dogra’s efforts in ensuring that Armaan’s spirit continues to live on. She shared her view that sports  is the one thing that truly unites us. A minute of silence was observed in Armaan’s memory.

Mr. Kapil Dev, in his address to the students, said that he was delighted to visit the school, and emphasized on the importance of celebrating Armaan’s life by carrying on the legacy of sports.

The much awaited prize distribution ceremony was conducted by Mr Pramod Grover and Mr.Kapil Dev. Modern School, Barakhamba Road secured the third position while DPS Vasant Kunj bagged the second one. DPS R.K. Puram took home the winning trophy. The Best Player award was given to Parth Kothari of DPS R.K. Puram.

The cultural programme presented by the students included a yoga act, an energetic zumba performance and a tuneful song by the school choir.

The cultural programme was followed by an address by Dr. M.C. Mishra, who congratulated all the winners, and spoke about the importance of yoga. Mr Pramod Grover thanked Mr Kapil Dev for taking the time to visit the school, and Dr. Dogra for sponsoring the tournament. He further declared the tournament closed. The Vice Principal, Dr Renu Nayar delivered the vote of thanks and spoke to the students about the importance of fair play.

The programme came to an end with the national anthem.



Observing Forgiveness – Value Of The Month (January)

CLASS VI

All students of class VI contributed in making the class board. All of them got slogans, posters, articles and drawings in English and Hindi. These were checked by the respective English and Hindi teachers. Students also decorated the corridors by putting up various slogans, quotes, etc.

FORGIVENESS is required for a person to be perfect. One needs to forgive others as quickly as one expects them to forgive you.

CLASS VII
As a part of the value of the month, various activities related to forgiveness were carried out in the classes. Discussions and speeches were organized and the students were encouraged to understand the importance of forgiveness. The topic was discussed in all the classes at length with various stories using real life examples.
The value of the word ‘Forgiveness’ was stressed upon. Students took active interest in decorating the classes. Students brought various quotations on the topic.

Certificates will be given to students who have understood and applied the real worth of the value of forgiveness.

CLASS VIII
Quotes on forgiveness were put up in the Circular Block 2nd Floor. The students put up quotes on forgiveness in their classes too.

The Class teachers discussed the importance of “letting go” to forgive and forget as this lessens strife during the Home room periods. Certificates are also being distributed to students who displayed this value in an exemplary manner.
