Commencement Day 2017

28th January 2017

DPS R.K.Puram held its Commencement Ceremony on 28 January 2017 to felicitate the outgoing batch of Class 12 students of 2017. This was the first time that such an event was organized in the school.

The Chief Guest was the Chairman of the DPS Society, Mr.V.K.Shunglu. The Guest of Honour was Mr.Vikas Swarup, famous writer and diplomat and the Additional Secretary and Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India. The Principal, Ms.Vanita Sehgal warmly welcomed the guests and the parents. Addressing the audience, she spoke about the importance of the occasion and how it was the beginning of a journey and asked the students to cherish the memories of their time in school. Also present were the Vice Principals, Dr. Renu Nayar, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, and Ms. Anita Singh.

The Chairman, Mr.Shunglu asked the students to be ‘true to themselves’ in whatever they did in life. The Guest of Honour, Mr.Swarup shared various interesting and humourous anecdotes of his life. He talked about the creative process and the importance of being curious to learn and to show compassion towards others. According to him, ‘Creativity’ is present in everyone, and the students just need to tap it.

After a musical performance by the school’s western music choir, the toppers from each stream were invited on stage to deliver the valedictory speeches. These were Vanshika Arora from the Science stream, Satvik Goel from the Commerce and Isha Goel from Humanities. The speeches were interspersed with the Indian vocal choir compositions.

The guests released the Yearbook of the Class 2017. Then came the moment everyone was waiting for – the felicitation of the students as they marched to the stage in the beautiful scarves and pins especially designed for them. They were presented with a scroll and a copy of the yearbook. Mr Vikas Swarup presented the students with a lamp signifying knowledge and learning, which was passed amongst the students and finally placed on a wall of lamps.

The vote of thanks was delivered by the Vice Principal, Ms.Padma Srinivasan who thanked the guests and the organizers of the programme and wished the students the best for the future. The programme ended with the national anthem.

The 68th Republic Day Celebrations

DPS R.K.Puram celebrated Republic Day on 26th January 2017 with great fervour The flag was hoisted in the school in the presence of the Principal, Ms.Vanita Sehgal and the teachers and the national anthem sung. Sweets were distributed to the students.

Guest Speaker for Sanskrit Students

A guest speaker programme was organized by the Sanskrit Department on 18th January 2017 for the students of Classes VII to X. The objective of this programme was to popularize Sanskrit among students and make it interesting.

The guest speakers were Dr Jyoti Raj and Mr. Sushil Kumar. Dr. Jyoti Raj, an alumnus of St. Stephen College is associated with DD News as a T V Anchor, News Reader, reporter and Editor. She is presently working in Sir Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College as an Assistant Professor.Mr. Sushil Kumar is a yoga expert is a teacher trainer with ‘Sanskrit Bharati’,an institution for promoting Sanskrit and Indian Culture.The Vice Principal Mrs. Anita Singh welcomed both the guests with plants.

This was interactive session .First, Dr Jyoti showed some visuals to the students and tested their concentration and focus through various stages of Questioning and relating them with Sanskrit The students took active part in the session and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Mr. Sushil Kumar emphasized on correct pronunciation and through interesting stories of Panchtantra, he threw light on Sanskrit Literature and the importance of Sanskrit in our lives.The Principal, Ms.Vanita Sehgal also attended the session and appreciated this interactive session.The session ended with a vote of thanks by the head of the Sanskrit Department, Mrs,Amla Thukral.

Guest Speaker for Class XI Biology Students

Prof. Kannan – Guest Speaker for Class XI Biology Students

On 18th January 2017, Professor K. Kannan from the Biotechnology Department of Guru Govind Singh IP University was invited as a Guest Speaker to address the Class XII Biotechnology Students in the Senior Biology laboratory. The Vice Principal, Mrs Anita Singh welcomed the guest.Prof Kannan asked the students to always be on a look for an opportunity for finding innovative solutions to be successful as Biotechnology is all about using creative ways to solve a biological problem. He also explained the concepts of stem cell, FISH technology, mass spectrometer, Protein sequencing , pre implant genetic diagnosis and the use of antibodies.Later he addressed the five Biology sections of Class XI.The topic was ‘Biology and beyond’. He said that the future prospects in the field of Biology like in Tissue Culture,Gut Biology, Pharmacogenomics,Intellectual Property Rights were very bright.It was interesting to know how gut bacteria influence our mood.He motivated the students to believe in themselves and to take intelligent risks.The programme was organised by Ms Kusum Yadav and Ms Niva Chhonkar of the Biology Department

Demo of Tools and Techniques Used in Biotechnology by Codon Biotech for Class XII Students

A demo was organized for the Biotechnology students of Class XII on 20 October 2016 in the Biotechnology Lab to know more about the techniques used in this field. Dr. Tripti Bhatnagar from Codon Biotech gave the demo of Restriction Digestion of DNA, bacterial transformation and Plasmid isolation from E.coli. Agarose gel electrophoresis was performed later and the students visualized DNA using transilluminator. The students learnt how to identify a recombinant bacterial colony by Insertional inactivation technique. It was an amazing experience for the students when they isolated DNA from bacteria. The demo was organized by Ms Niva Chhonkar, the Biology Coordinator.
