Scholar Badge Ceremony 2016 – Class X (Sections H-M)
Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram hosted the Scholar Badge Ceremony of Class X (Sections H-M) on 30th November 2016. The Scholar Badge Ceremony is the most awaited event for the students as they receive acknowledgement for their academic and extracurricular excellence. The Chief Guest for the event was Prof. B.P. Khandelwal, Member of the DPS Society and the Managing Committee of DPS R.K.Puram.
The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp and the Chief Guest was welcomed by a mesmerising classical composition performed by the school orchestra. Following the felicitation of the chief guest, a video highlighting the school’s achievements in academics, extracurriculars and sports was shown. The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal welcomed the chief guest and the parents.She shared the news of the school being ranked Number 1 all over India by Education Today with everyone. She urged the students to explore the world around them and broaden their horizons.The cultural program saw the students performing a mime, a recitation, and dazzling dances. Speaking on the occasion, Prof B.P. Khandelwal expressed his amazement on the talent of the students, sharing with the audience his early experiences as well as opinions about subject options in Class 10.
The class representative, Ms. Shalu Khanna, conducted the Award Distribution ceremony. The Chief Guest, Prof B.P. Khandelwal, the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal and the Vice Principal, Ms. Anita Singh, presented the badges, blazers and certificates to the worthy students for continuous academic and extracurricular excellence.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Anita Singh, who congratulated all the students. She also thanked the Chief Guest for gracing the occasion and for his words of wisdom. The Principal appreciated the efforts of the teachers, and all those present.
The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem.
Biology Students Explore Scientific Ideas at IGIB
The Biology students of Class XII visited IGIB (The Institute of Genomics & Integrative Biology) on 4th November 2016 on the occasion of ‘Open Day’. It was an opportunity for hands-on experiments as well as informal interactions with the scientists on the experiment stations. Experiment stations like Lumino World highlighted the role of fluorescence in Biology.Students learnt about nanoparticles and their applications in chemistry and biology. Students extracted their own DNA from cheek cells and took it as ‘Souvenior’.One station also displayed the bacterial diversity and how bacteria can be visualized, identified and controlled. Stations with effect of antibiotics, drug designing and 3-D cell models were also among the exhibits.
The students saw amazing slides under Scanning Electron Microscope. The Star attraction was the Zebra fish Room with Casper zebra fish which was transparent.
This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to connect the concepts learnt in the school curriculum with scientific as well as real life problems and to nurture their budding ideas. The students were accompanied by Ms Shalini Chanan,Ms Kajal Sethi and Ms Niva Chhonkar, the Coordinator of the Biology Department.

Exun Clan, the Computer Club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, hosted its 21st Annual Inter-School IT Symposium, EXUN 2016 on the 26th and 27th of November, 2016. The event was sponsored by Sony, PlayStation, Zeiss, Cubelelo, Minerva, Avit and Bennett University. Exun, short for ‘Experts Unlimited’, was founded by the Head of the Computer Science department, Mr. Mukesh Kumar, and a small group of computer enthusiasts in the year 1992. ‘Exun Alumni members’ is an elite group of computer enthusiasts of all ages. This year, with over 1000+ registrations from 55 schools, Exun organised 14 different IT events.
The symposium pre-started with an Online Cryptic Hunt held over 3 days having open 1000+ participation from 33 countries and 60000+ submissions.
Present on the occasion were the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayar, and Mr. Mukesh Kumar, the Head of Computer Science department, along with his team of Computer Science Teachers and technology support staff. Professor Suneet Tuli from Bennett University; Ms. Kriti Parashar, South Asia Country Director of Minerva Schools at KGI; Mr. Rajesh Diwani and Mr. Umender Shah, business head of the consumer optics division of Zeiss, graced the occasion.
EXUN 2016 commenced with the lighting of the lamp followed by a welcome note from the Presidents of the Exun Clan. The Principal, Ms. Sehgal, addressed the gathering and shared her personal experiences with the students, exhorting them never to “forget the human touch” in the era of advancing technology.
On this occasion, Exun released its 11th issue of the Annual Magazine – “UnderScore” – which was also a green move to reduce papers by reducing the articles requiring 80+ pages to 28 pages by introducing QR code for each article, where these QR Code were linked to full articles present on the website.
The official EXUN 2016 video was presented, providing a briefing about the particulars of the event. The event started with Professor Suneel Tuli addressing the participants about the use of technology for a better world. Ms. Kriti Parashar spoke about Minerva Schools and the aim behind the project.
EXUN 2016 saw enormous participation from talented students who worked with full gusto and thoroughly enjoyed the various events. This year, the Exun Clan introduced a new and unique opportunity for expert and budding developers to showcase their amazing creations in the form of ‘Exun Demos’.
The first day included the prelims of Cubing events, Gaming, Group Discussion, Junior and Senior Quizzes, and Crossword, and the finals of Programming, Create, Turing Test, and Group Discussion categories, whereas the second day included the finals of Cubing events, Crossword, Junior and Senior Quizzes, Gaming, Hardware, and Digital Poster Design. There was also a Surprise Event, wherein students competed in multiple rounds that included Cryptic Hunt, Pac Man, Dumb Charades and a Speed Clicking Race.
Mr. Mukesh Kumar started off the Valedictory Ceremony by reminiscing about how Exun came into being. He emphasized the importance of the club’s motto “We, not I”, and commended the level of commitment and enthusiasm of both the participants as well as the club members. The ceremony was presided over by the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, who reminded the students that it’s not winning or losing, but the fun of being together that mattered.
The results of the Cubing events were as follows: in 2×2, Amity International School, Noida came first, followed by Hans Raj Modern School and DPS Vasant Kunj; Hans Raj Modern School bagged first position in 3×3, and was followed by DPS Vasant Kunj and Amity International School, Noida; Pyramix was won by Bluebells School International, and DPS Rohini and DPS Vasant Kunj came second and third respectively. DPS Vasant Kunj bagged first and second positions in Digital Poster Design, and the third position was held by Mount Saint Mary’s School. Hardware was won by DPS Vasant Kunj, and was followed by DPS Dwarka and Mount Carmel. DPS Vasant Kunj came first in Group Discussion, and DPS Dwarka and Mount Carmel came second and third respectively. In Turing Test, DPS Dwarka, The Mother’s International School, and DPS Vasant Kunj came first, second, and third respectively. DPS Dwarka bagged first position in Programming; DPS Faridabad came second and DPS Rohini came third. DPS Rohini, Modern School, Barakhamba, and DPS Noida came first, second, and third respectively in Crossword. In Junior Quiz, DPS Noida, DPS Vasant Kunj, and Ramjas School, RK Puram came first, second and third respectively, while DPS Noida bagged first position in Senior Quiz, and was followed by Modern School, Barakhamba and Mount St. Mary’s School. Domain²+ Gaming was won by DPS Sushant Lok; DAV Shreshtha Vihar and DPS Vasant Kunj came second and third respectively. The results of Create were as follows: DPS Gurgaon came first in Web Development, and was followed by Modern School Barakhamba and DPS Vasant Kunj; DPS Vasant Kunj won Design, and DPS Gurgaon and DPS Rohini came second and third respectively; Modern School Barakhamba bagged first position in Audio Editing, while DPS Vasant Kunj and DPS Dwarka came second and third respectively; in Video Editing, DPS Rohini came first, DPS Faridabad came second, and Mount St. Mary’s School came third; Amity International School, Modern School Barakhamba, and Mount Abu Public School came first, second, and third respectively in 3D Modelling. Sudocrypt, an online global event, was won by Sparsh Tyagi, while Umesh Meena held second position and Anubhav Baweja came third. The Surprise event was won by The Mother’s International School; DPS Vasant Kunj and DPS Dwarka came second and third respectively.
The winners were also given special prizes powered by the sponsors. DPS Vasant Kunj was adjudged the overall winner. The first runner-up was DPS Dwarka, while the second runner-up was Modern School, Barakhamba Road.
The best thing of this year’s symposium was that all the events which were held in the auditorium and Gaming Venue were live streamed on facebook alongwith live results.
Mr. Mukesh Kumar ended the Symposium by thanking the judges, partners, alumni, and sponsors for making the occasion such a success.

The Constitution Day Celebrations – 25 And 26th November 2016
The Indian Constitution was adopted by the members of the Constituent Assembly on 26th November, 1949.
To commemorate the Constitution Day of India, the Youth Parliament Club of DPS R. K. Puram organized a presentation and display of the Constitutions made by the students of their class containing their preamble, rules and regulations, code of conduct, their rights and duties towards their class, school, and environment, etc.
The Indian Constitution, which is the supreme law containing those principles and structures on the basis of which our country is organized, was also put on display for the students and teachers to see.
In order to spread awareness about the constitution among the students, the Preamble to the Indian Constitution, the eleven Fundamental Duties, Rights of an Indian citizen and the reasonable restrictions on them were displayed on the Soft Board.
The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, read out the Preamble to the Indian Constitution as well as the eleven Fundamental Duties enshrined in Article 51 (A) .
A Constitution Day Quiz was also organized for the students of Classes VI – XII in two categories. Students participated in large numbers in the event.

Visit of Class VII (Sections A & B) To The Rashtrapati Bhavan On 25 November 2016
Students of VII A and B were taken for a visit to the Rashtrapati Bhavan on 25 November 2016. They were accompanied by Ms. Sudha Sharma, Ms. Surbhi Gaur, Ms. Nandini Dhir and Ms. Richa Basrao.
They reached the Rashtrapati Bhavan at 9 am. After the security check, a group photograph was clicked before the tour started. The guide escorted the group through the Bhavan and gave valuable information about it. The Rashtrapati Bhavan has a total of 340 rooms spread over four floors. The group first saw a beautiful statue of Lord Buddha with a thousand hands. They were taken to the Ashoka Hall, Loggia, Darbar Hall, Ballroom, Dining Hall, Library and the garden. It was a wonderful experience. Students enjoyed the trip thoroughly.
Guest Speaker Programme on ‘Public Speaking and Personality Development’
On 22nd November 2016, a Guest Speaker Programme on ‘Public Speaking and Personality Development’ was organised for the students of Class VIII. Ms Shuilu Dar was the Guest Speaker for the day. Ms Dar has a Masters in Spanish. She was the Deputy General Manager for IBM Daksh Business Process services. She has been the Director HR at CPA Global Services. She has also been the Talent Acquisition Leader (South Asia) for E I Dupont India Pvt. Ltd. Currently, she is the founding partner of Nashrah- the Talent League, that focuses on leadership and global recruitment.
Ms Dar began by getting the students to speak about what public speaking means to them. She went on to combine anecdotes from her own life with similarities between school and the corporate world. She spoke about the importance of self awareness and originality. ‘Good Personality Characteristics’, ‘The Nine Types of Personalities’ and ‘How to make people like you’ were some of the things she spoke about.
The students actively and enthusiastically participated, expressing their views on what Ms Dar spoke about, answering her questions and also giving their interpretation of what they learnt. All in all, the event was a success, and every student had something to take back home and ponder over.
Biology Students visit Molecular Medicine and the Special Centre for Nano Science at JNU
Jawaharlal Nehru University organized an Open Day on 21 November 2016 to showcase the research facilities available in its institute. The Biology students of Class XI visited the Schools of Molecular Medicine and the Special Centre for Nano Science. There was an Exhibition of models related to different aspects of Nanotechnology, Life Sciences and Biotechnology. Experiments like Agarose electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, Plant Pigments separation, stained slides of rat intestine were also carried out. The Demo of conversion of cotton to rayon fiber was interesting. Students found Turmeric tablets very interesting. Turmeric has antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. The Demo of Stealth Technology was also done. The Vice Chancellor of JNU, Mr.Jagdish Kumar motivated the students to ask questions and never to be afraid of failures. The students were accompanied by Ms.Kusum Yadav, Ms.Shalini Chanana, Ms.Kajal Sethi, Ms.Sushma Sardana and Ms Niva Chhonkar of the Department of Biology.
Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized the Annual Inter-School Commerce Festival – ‘ComAstitva’, a collaborative effort of the Business Studies, Accounts and Economics departments on 19th November 2016.
ComAstitva was an endeavor aimed at exposing students to the working economic environment of business, commerce and industry, and to provide them with the finest of educational experience. A multitude of innovative and creative competitions were planned to help the students of classes XI and XII to learn, explore and reach beyond their expectations and to emerge as ‘winners’.
The Chief Guest for the day was Dr. Anju Srivastava, Principal, Hindu College, University of Delhi. She was joined by the judges for the onsite events, Dr. Rachna Jawa and Dr. Vandana Jain. Mr. Sharad Kohli who was also one of the judges, joined later. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest along with the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, the Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayar. Also present were the Heads of Departments along with their teams of teachers – Mrs. Anu Bhandari (Business Studies), Mrs. Anita Singhal (Economics) and Mrs. Reena Mehta (Accountancy).
The programme began with an instrumental performance by the school orchestra which was followed by a floral welcome extended to the chief guest and the other judges. The cultural programme included the Guruvandana saluting the noble gurus, a musical fusion sung melodiously by the school choir and an enthralling dance performance. Addressing the participants, the Principal, Ms. Sehgal stressed on the importance of enjoying the competition in the true spirit of sportsmanship. The Chief Guest gave her best wishes to the participants and highlighted the importance of commitment in life.
Students from 15 schools took part in the competitive events, which were divided into online and onsite categories. The Online events were ‘Brand-Logue’ where the participants were asked to design an E-catalogue of a designated company; ‘Ecopix’ where the participants had to submit a self-clicked picture depicting a given topic, and ‘Logo Mania’ where the participants designed the logo of a company.
The onsite events were ‘The Curtain Call’ where the participants performed a skit on a given topic; ‘The Young Entrepreneur’ where the participants were asked to make a presentation about the business strategy of an enterprise, and ‘Eco-Biz Quiz’ where the participants were required to clear the preliminary round to reach the final round of the quiz.
The results were declared after the onsite events concluded, and winning teams (as listed below) of each of the events were felicitated by the Principal, Ms. Sehgal with certificates and trophies during the prize distribution ceremony.

Dr. Prem Kirpal Memorial Inter School Art and Poetry Competitions – ‘Art Poetica’
On 16 November 2016, Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted the annual Dr. Prem Kirpal Memorial Inter School Art and Poetry Competitions – ‘Art Poetica’ in fond memory of the former Chairman of DPS Society, Dr. P.N. Kirpal.
The Chief Guest at the Prize Distribution Ceremony was Mr. V.K. Shunglu, Chairman of the DPS Society and DPS R.K.Puram Managing Committee. Member of the DPS Society and former Chief Justice of India, Honorable Justice B.N.Kirpal presided over the event and was accompanied by his wife, Mrs.Aruna Kirpal. Other prominent dignitaries who graced the occasion included the Vice Chairman of the DPS Society and Member of the DPS R.K. Puram Managing Committee, Rear Admiral M.M. Chopra; Honorary Treasurer, DPS Society and Vice Chairman of the Managing Committee of DPS R.K Puram, Mr. Pramod Grover; Members of the DPS Society, Dr. (Mrs). Usha Luthra, Mr. Ashok Chandra, Mrs. Namita Pradhan; and Members of the DPS Society and of the Managing Committee of DPS R.K Puram, Prof.B.P. Khandelwal and Mr.V.M.Thapar. The guests were welcomed by the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal; the Vice Principals, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, Dr. Renu Nayar, Ms. Anita Singh, and the Head of the English Department, Ms. Savita Vasesi.
Students from 25 schools took part in the competitive events, ‘Blend Art’, ‘Artistic Poesy’, ‘Lyrical Canvas’, ‘Lime in Rhyme’, ‘Double Harness’, and ‘Stage-A-Verse’. The events were held at various venues simultaneously. Blend Art involved recitation, dramatization, and painting the essence of a poem selected by the participants. In Artistic Poesy, participants were required to compose a ballad based on five paintings. Lyrical Canvas had participants capturing the dominant emotion from a line of a poem. Double Harness required the participants to form couplets based on two prompts, a word, and an emotion given to each student in two rounds. In Stage-A-Verse, participants wrote and enacted a skit in verse on the basis of a given prompt. Lime in Rhyme required the participants to create limericks within a time limit. All of the events were assessed by a team of eminent judges.
The Valedictory function commenced with the lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of the guests. The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, expressed her gratitude to the Kirpal family. She commended the creativity of the participants and congratulated them. The cultural programme consisted of a beautiful musical and theatrical performance by the students of DPS R.K. Puram, illustrating the importance of being original. The Chief Guest, Mr. V.K. Shunglu, addressed the gathering saying that this annual momentous occasion brings together various schools and inculcates in the students a desire to compete and excel. Blend Art was won by DPS Rohini; the second position was shared by Birla Vidya Niketan and Mother’s International; DPS Vasant Kunj held the third position. The first position in Artistic Poesy was bagged by DPS International; DPS Rohini and G.D. Goenka, Vasant Kunj came second and third respectively. Birla Vidya Niketan won Lyrical Canvas; DPS Vasant Kunj held the second position and DPS Indirapuram came third. In Double Harness, DPS International, DPS Gurgaon, and Tagore International School, East of Kailash came first, second, and third respectively. Modern School, Barakhamba Road bagged the first position in Stage-A-Verse, and were followed by DPS Mathura Road; the third position was shared by Mother’s International and Tagore International School, East of Kailash. The first, second, and third positions in Lime in Rhyme were secured by DPS Indirapuram, DPS Greater Noida, and DPS Gurgaon respectively. The overall winner was DPS Indirapuram .
Ms. Savita Vasesi, Head of the English Department, delivered the vote of thanks and commended all the students and teachers for efforts to make the event a success. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
The National Inter DPS Hindustani Vocal Music Festival – ‘Swaranjali 2016’
Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted the National Inter DPS Hindustani Vocal Music Festival, “Swaranjali 2016” on 11 November, 2016. The event consisted of two categories, Solo and Group singing.
174 participants from 28 schools competed in the event. The judges for the Group Event were Mrs. Veena Pahari, Assistant Director at the All India Radio and Mrs. Anuradha Kotiyal, who has worked with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and with the All India Radio. The Solo Category was judged by Mrs. Meeta Pandit, a Hindustani classical music exponent and Ms.Sunanda Pathak, vocalist of the Delhi Gharana, author of two books on music and presently working at the University of Delhi.
It was wonderful seeing the students participate with full zest and enthusiasm. In the closing ceremony those present included Shri V.K. Shunglu, Chairman of DPS Society; Dr. Zeenat Khader, Jt Secretary, DPS Society and National convener of the Music Festival; the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal; Vice Principal and programme Incharge, Ms. Padma Srinivasan; Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayar ; Mrs M.Sudeshna , programme coordinator and the complete music department. The Principal, Ms.Vanita Sehgal extended a warm welcome to all the guests. The ceremony had melodious songs by DPS Ranchi, DPS Noida and DPS Ranipur. The Chairman, Shri. V.K. Shunglu addressed the gathering and motivated everyone, “to strike a balance between extra-curriculars and academics to prepare themselves for this competitive world.”
In the Solo Category, the first position was bagged by DPS Ranchi while DPS Noida and DPS Vasant Kunj were the first and second runners-up respectively. In the Group Category, DPS Ranipur came first. DPS Jaipur came second while the second runners-up was DPS Dalegaon. The rolling trophy was awarded to DPS Raipur in the group category while DPS Ranchi was awarded the rolling trophy in the Solo Category.
Dr. Zeenat Khader, national convener gave the vote of thanks and emphasised on the fact that “participation is more important than anything”. It was a great event and at a time when more and more people are being attracted towards Western culture, a competition of classical music is indeed a great step to revive our traditions.

The Scholar Badge ceremony of class XII sections E, F , J-N and T-X was held at DPS R.K. Puram on 10th November 2016. The students excitedly look forward to this event where meritorious students, both, in the fields of academics as well as extracurricular are honoured on stage.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Mr. Pramod Grover, Vice Chairman Managing Committee, DPS R.K Puram and Honorary Treasurer, DPS Society. He was welcomed by a beautiful symphony performed by the school orchestra. A short film showcasing the achievements and talents of the school was played.
The event began with the lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of the Chief Guest. The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal delivered the welcome address where she accentuated the importance of accepting change, keeping in mind the values one has been taught. She also congratulated the worthy students and wished them the very best for the future.
The cultural programme consisted of a beautiful dance performance, relaying the message of overcoming obstacles to achieve success in life and the necessity of believing in oneself. The school choir also presented a melodious fusion of Hindi and English songs.
The chief guest, Mr. Pramod Grover congratulated the meritorious students and praised the school for its record of excellence.

Strengthening Foundations of Teaching Mathematics in Senior Secondary Classes
In-service Teacher Development Programme 3rd-6th November 2016
A four day workshop titled Strengthening Foundations of Teaching Mathematics in Senior Secondary Classes was organized by the Delhi Public School Society from 3rd to 6th November 2016 at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram for the Post Graduate Teachers, on whom lies the responsibility of the performance in the CBSE Board for Class XII. 44 PGTs from 26 branches of Delhi Public Schools across the country participated in this programme.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was the Chairman of the DPS Society, Mr.V.K Shunglu, Also present on the occasion was Dr. Zeenat Khader, Jt. The event began with the lighting of the lamp. Dr. Zeenat Khader, delivered the welcome address where she briefed the participants about the genesis of the programme.This was followed by a mesmerizing rhythmic yoga performance and Shloka recital by the students of DPS R.K Puram. Mr. Anil Kumar, Principal of DPS Faridabad gave the overview of the workshop.
The Chairman, Mr. V. K Shunglu welcomed all the participants and resource experts. He stated that, ‘Mathematics is the language of modern civilization’ and all efforts should be made to spread the message that Mathematics should be learnt by each and every student.
Ms. Vanita Sehgal proposed the vote of thanks and the inaugural ceremony concluded with the National Anthem.
In the workshops sessions, Dr. M.A. Prasad of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai covered the topic ‘Vectors and 3D’ and made it very interesting by presenting in a very lucid manner, the three approaches to the learning of vectors. Dr. Alok Kumar of the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education in Mumbai attempted to drill in the simple concepts of ‘Relations and Functions’ through a question bank. Prof. Purkayastha of Indian Statistical Institute of Kolkata covered the topic of ‘Permutations and Combinations’ .Through his spirited, lucid and simple examples on the Binomial Theorem, Dr. Arshad Majeed, a renowned Resource expert from Delhi drilled confidence in the teachers to motivate the students.Prof. Prithwijit De, of TIFR made the sessions on Trigonometry enjoyable for the teachers, as he made it practical through questionnaires and exercises. Dr. Amit Kumar of IIT, Delhi covered the ticklish subject of ‘Probability’ in a practical manner.
In the valedictory function on 6th November, those present were Dr.Zeenat Khader, Jt. Secretary, DPS Society; Mr. Anil Kumar, Principal, DPS Faridabad; Ms. Vanita Sehgal, Principal, DPS R.K Puram and Dr. Alok Kumar. Certificates of participation were given to all the participants. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr.Anil Kathuria, Coordinator of the Department of Mathematics. On the whole, the workshop has enthused one and all and is bound to pave the way for strengthened the teaching of Mathematics.
‘MOSAIC 2016- Patterns of Life’
Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram hosted the annual Psych-Socio fest, “Mosaic 2016- Patterns of Life” on 5th November, 2016. The fest was organised jointly by the school’s Psychology and Sociology departments. With participation from 34 schools, Mosaic provided the students with a platform where they could mix the thrill of competition with an enriching learning experience. The judges for the occasion were Dr. Monalisa Palit, an eminent clinical psychologist and senior consultant at VIMHANS; Ms. Pankhuri Aggarwal, research assistant at the National Institute for Public Finance and Policy and Clinical Psychologist at the Neurology and Sleep Clinic in Delhi; Ms. Vishnupriya Rajgarhia, Teaching Assistant at Ashoka University and Design Assistant for a theatre production; Ms. Mahima Goburdhun, student at Ashoka University and Assistant Director in a short film and Mr. Rahul Vats, student at University of Manchester. Present on the occasion were the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal; Vice Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan and Head of Departments for Psychology and Sociology, Ms. Vithika Rahul and Dr. Rita Khanna.
The event commenced with the felicitation of the guests by the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal. Ms. Vithika Rahul welcomed the gathering and called the event, “an attempt to find one’s abilities, express oneself and learn through experiences.” The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal addressed the students and exhorted them to fully enjoy all the activities. This was followed by a mesmerising devotional dance performance.
Mosaic 2016 included four events- Mind Games , a general quiz on India; Showcase, an analysis of advertisement clips judged by Ms. Pamkhuri Aggarwal and Dr Monalisa Palit; Canvas, the poster making contest judged by Ms. Vishnupriya Rajgarhiya; and Pick and Click, a photo essay competition that was judged by Ms. Mahima Goburdhun and Mr. Rahul Vats.
The closing ceremony was graced by a melodious duet that pleased everyone. DPS Gurgaon bagged the first position for Mind Games while Ahlcon Public school came second. The winner for the Showcase was Ambience Public School while the first runner up was Modern School, Barakhamba Road. Vasant Valley School secured the first position in Canvas while DPS Rohini was the first runners up. The Indian School won the Pick and Click event whereas DPS Mathura Road came second. The Indian School was the overall winner and was awarded the rolling trophy.
The Vice Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan delivered the vote of thanks. The event will go a long way in broadening the horizons of students when it comes to Psychology and Sociology, not only as subjects in the curriculum but also as disciplines.
Scholar Badge Ceremony 2016 – Class XII (Sections A-D , G-I , O-S)
The Scholar Badge ceremony of class XII sections A-D, G-I, and 0-S was held at DPS R.K. Puram on 4th November 2016. This ceremony is a much anticipated event in the school calendar as meritorious students, both, in the fields of academics as well as extracurricular, are honoured on stage.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Mr. V.K. Shunglu, Chairman of the DPS Society and DPS R.K.Puram Managing Committee. He was welcomed by a beautiful symphony performed by the school orchestra. A short film showcasing the achievements and talents of the school was played.

She stressed on the importance of owning up to one’s shortcomings and trying to improve them which is the only way to start learning. She congratulated the worthy students and wished them good luck for their future.
The cultural programme consisted of a beautiful dance performance , relaying the message of overcoming obstacles to achieve success in life and the necessity of believing in oneself. The school choir also presented a melodious fusion of Hindi and English songs.
The Chief Guest, Mr.V.K Shunglu spoke about the importance of strength to face the difficulties in life so as to reach one’s destination. He also congratulated the school and the meritorious students.
The class representative, Dr.Shachindra Sharma, conducted the Award Distribution ceremony. The Chief Guest , Mr. V.K. Shunglu , the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal and the Vice Principal, Dr.Renu Nayar presented the gold medals, scholar badges, blazers and certificates to the worthy students.
The Vice Principal, Dr.Renu Nayar proposed the vote of thanks and the ceremony concluded with the National Anthem.
Van Mahotsava Celebration ‘Plantation Drive 2016’
They say the best time to plant a tree is just now.
A plantation drive was organized for the students of class VI to XI . Our esteemed Principal, Ms Vanita Sehgal , Vice Principals, Dr Renu Nayar, Ms Padma Srinivasan and Ms Anita Singh along with the Headmistress Ms Rashmi Malhotra were invited to join the plantation drive. Students planted saplings of neem ,mulberry, jamun and mango .The students were also asked to give names to the plants . The drive was carried out at different locations of the school like outside the sports complex. Students identified the area, cleaned it and prepared it for the plantation. This helped the students to understand the plethora of benefits of trees in their lives. Sapling Plantation was also done by the teachers on the divider outside the school, opposite to Sports Complex. It was a pleasure to see teachers digging and making pits. Later Ashoka Saplings were planted and watered by them.
The arrangements for the plantation were done by Ms Kusum Yadav,Ms Neelam Ajwani, Ms Dimple Menon, Ms Jyoti Sharma, Ms Shalini Chanan ,Ms Reema Khosla and Ms Niva Chhonkar of the Biology Department
