DIGEX 2016

Digex, the photography club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized its annual symposium on Saturday, 14th May 2016, in partnership with Canon. Digex, short for ‘digital excellence’, is the photography and film-making club, founded in 2009 by a group of photography enthusiasts. The event saw active participation of 50 schools across Delhi and NCR.

The Chief Guests for the occasion were Mr. Andrew Koh, Vice President, Consumer Imaging and Information Centre, Canon and Ms. Sandhya Chauhan, Regional Business Head at Canon India. The guests were welcomed by the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, the Vice Principals, Dr. Renu Nayar and Ms. Padma Srinivasan; Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Head of the Department, Computer Science and coordinator of the event; and the Digex Incharge, Ms. Sarika Kaushal.

The event began with the lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of the guests. The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal extended a warm welcome to all present and emphasized on the importance of participation over winning. This was followed by a short movie on the achievements of the Digex Club and a mime act performed by the Expressions Theatre Club. The Chief Guest, Mr.Koh addressed the gathering and expressed his views on the art of photography by saying -’photography is visual art’.

The event comprised of 4 competitive events, ‘A!SNAP’, ‘Freeze the Second’, ‘Click-a-Boo’ and ‘Frame-by-Frame’. The Canon team organized an interactive workshop, ‘Photo talk’ for teachers and students.

The judges of the events were Mr. Jasminder Oberoi, Mr. Nitish Pandey, Mr. Bharat Singh and Dr. Amit Chawla- representatives of the Canon India Team.

In the results tally, the ‘A!SNAP’ event was won by Presidium Gurgaon, while DPS. R.K. Puram and Step by Step had a tie for the second position and Apeejay Pitampura bagged the third position. Step by Step won the first prize in ‘Freeze the second’, followed by DPS Sushant Lok and Banyan Tree in the second and third place respectively. ‘Click-a-Boo’, which was a surprise event, was won by Ryan International Public School, Mayur Vihar, the second position was bagged by Amity International, Mayur Vihar while DPS R.K. Puram and DPS Noida had a tie for the third prize. DPS Dwarka secured the first position in the ‘Frame by Frame’, online movie making event followed by DPS Gurgaon Sector 45 and DPS Rohini in the second and third position respectively.

The event concluded with a mime act and AdsAct performed by the Expressions Theatre Club. A token of appreciation was given to the representatives of Canon Team India. The Chief Guest congratulated the school on the success of the event and mentioned that DPS R.K. Puram had become a part of the Canon family. Ms. Sandhya Chauhan , Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Head of the Department, Computer Science and Ms. Sarika Kaushal, Digex Incharge were present for the Award Distribution. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Sarika Kaushal.
The event served as an effective platform for all photography enthusiasts to share their interests and was an enriching experience for one and all.

STOCK TALK

The Business Studies Society of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted a ‘Stock Talk’ on the 5th of May 2016 for the students of class XII. The event consisted of insightful interactions with three eminent speakers. The objective of the event was to inform and encourage the youth of the society to participate in the nation’s stock exchange.

Ms Vasundhara Bahadur, London School of Economics alumnus, currently studying in Smith College, began by explaining the subject to the students and soon had the audience enthralled. She talked about the basic concepts – the accounts involved, the do’s and don’ts, and the procedure – of exchanging stocks. She even showed how shares are exchanged, live in the National Stock Exchange.

Ms. Bhuvana Ravi, Director, Abhay Capital Services Pvt. Ltd. and Ravi Rajan & Company Pvt. Ltd.introduced the live nature of the stock exchange and helped make sense out of the plethora of numbers that often confuse students.

Mr Ajay Singh, a leading personality in this area, made the event even more memorable by giving it a personal touch. He narrated stories and interesting anecdotes out of his own experience while working with stocks and other business personalities.

Overall, the event was extremely enlightening- the perfect push for beginners wishing to dabble in shares.



MAGIC SHOW

A Magic Show was organised for the students of class VI of Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram on 29th April 2016, as part of the Hindustan Times – PACE Programme. It was conducted by Mr Mahesh in the school’s audio-visual hall. Two sessions were conducted in the 2nd and 3rd and 5th and 6th periods so that all the students of class VI could watch it in two batches.

His repertoire of magical acts proved his dexterity in the sleight of hand. Things appeared and disappeared at his beckoning amid rounds of applause from the students, who were thrilled by the show. He also invited some of the students to the stage to perform a few tricks and taught them some tricks. He held the attention of the students with the skill that he displayed.



A SEMINAR ON PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS

A seminar was conducted by the Psychology Department on 6th May 2016 on Psychological Disorders for the psychology students of classes 11th and 12th. Dr. Sameer Guliani, a psychiatric consultant at Fortis Hospital and an alumnus of DPS RKP conducted the seminar, touching upon several domains of importance in psychology such as Historical views, myths and stigmas surrounding mental illnesses and an introduction to the prevalent psychological disorders in society today. The seminar covered different facets of personality disorders ranging from Neuro-cognitive, Depressive and Dissociative disorders to Impulse control and Gender Dysphoria. Students were also enlightened about the differences between Factitious and Malingering disorders and the ensuing personality disorders that follow as a result. The event came to a close with an interactive Question and Answer session wherein students sparked active discussion by broaching subjects related to socio-cultural phenomenon and widely prevalent disorders such as Munchausen’s Syndrome and the like.
