VISIT TO THE MEHRAULI ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK AND LODI PERIOD BAOLI-TOMBS
The Digex Club and the History Society of DPS, R.K. Puram organised a Heritage cum Photo Walk to the Mehrauli Archaeological Park and a Baoli – Tombs dating back to Lodi period in sector 5 of R.K. Puram on 28th December 2015. A select group of 26 students from classes IX to XI were accompanied by Ms. Sarika Kaushal and Ms Shaloo Khanna.
At Mehrauli they visited Quli Khan’s tomb/ Metcalf’s Guest house, Jamali- Kamali tomb – mosque, Balban’s tomb, Rajon ki baoli. Students also saw ruins of a residential colony dating back to the Lodi period.
The group also visited a Baoli- Tombs dating back to the Lodi period in Sector -5, R.K.Puram. This monument has been adopted by DPS, R. K. Puram. 5 tombs at the site are of unknown people. Students- artists made sketches of the baoli.
Mr. Nitish, an official with Canon, accompanied the group and gave Digex club members hands on training on how to use a camera. Students clicked lots of pictures at both the sites.
SANSKRITOTSAVA – SANSKRIT FESTIVAL 2015
The Sanskrit Festival ‘Sanskritotsava’ was organised for the first time by ‘Sanskriti’ the Sanskrit Club in association with Sanskrit Department Of DPS R K Puram on 22nd December 2015.
Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted inter school competitions in which 17 schools across Delhi-NCR participated.
The Chief Guest for the event was Dr. Pankaj Kr. Mishra, Associate Professor in St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University and the guest of honour was Dr Anju Seth , Associate Professor of Satyawati College, Delhi Unversity. The panel of judges included Dr. Ajay Jha, Assistant Professor of Satyawati College, Delhi University; Dr. Suchitra Bharti, Assistant Professor in Gargi College, Delhi University, Dr. Pankaj Kr.Mishra and Dr.Anju Seth. Also present was Dr.Asha Lata Pandey, former Head of Sanskrit Department; Vice Prinicipals, Ms. Vanita Sehgal and Dr.Renu Nayar; Headmistress Ms.Anita Singh and the Head of Sanskrit department, Mrs. Amla Thukral and her team of teachers.
The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp and felicitation of the Chief Guest and judges by the Principal, Dr. D.R.Saini. The Cultural Programme consisted of a mesmerising recitation of Sanskrit Shlokas by Class VI students followed by ‘Pushpanjali’ – an invocation dance. The audience was graced by a scintillating Sanskrit ‘Kavyaali’ (Qawwali) performance and a mellifluous Sanskrit Song. Thereafter the students put up a thought provoking street play on the ‘Importance of Sanskrit’ and a Power Point Presentation prepared by Rajat Sindu Class XI student on the “Usage of Sanskrit in Modern Days” was shown to the audience. The Chief Guest addressed the gathering highlighting the rich culture and history of the language. He connected with the gathering with his melodious songs in Sanskrit. Dr.Anju Seth, the guest of honour also addressed the audience and appreciated the efforts of students.
There were two competitive events, Debate and Poster Making. The topic of the debate was “Is the revolution in the field of communication helping in the upliftment of mankind or is it causing more damage and downfall?” The Poster Making competition had two topics “Women Empowerment” and “Relation between cleanliness and health.”
The Debate(in favour of the topic) was won by DPS R.K. Puram , while DPS Dwarka came second and DPS Indirapuram third. Speaking against the topic, DPS Indirapuram bagged first position ,followed by DPS Bulandshahr. and DPS.Noida in the second and third places respectively. The trophy for the best team in Debate went to DPS Indirapuram.
DPS R.K. Puram won the first prize in the Poster Making Competition(Topic-Cleanliness) followed by DPS Vasant Kunj and DPS Gurgaon in the second and third places respectively. In the topic ‘Women Empowerment’, DPS Gurgaon bagged the first position while DPS Noida and DPS Faridabad stood second and third respectively.DPS Gurgaon bagged the best team trophy for Poster Making.
The vote of thanks was given by the Head of Sanskrit department, Mrs. Amla Thukral.
The ‘Sanskritotsava’ was successful in spiking the curiosity for Sanskrit among the students as they participated in all the dynamic events. Such initiatives will go a long way in highlighting the importance of the subject.
BHASHA UTSAV 2015
Dr. Rajendra Prasad once said, “A country that does not take pride in its language and literature can never progress.” Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, hosted the annual Bhasha Utsav, organised by the Hindi department, on 23rd December 2015. The event saw active participation of 22 schools from across the city.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp, enriched by the presence of the chief guest, Mr. Ravi Raj Sagar, an eminent dramatist and the artistic director of the theatre group, Dramatech. Also present were the Principal, Dr. D. R. Saini and the Vice Principals, Ms. Shobha Mehta and Ms. Vanita Sehgal; and Headmistress, Ms.Anita Singh.
The panel of judges for the events included Dr. Ghamandilal Agrawal, acclaimed poet and writer; Ms. Seema Bharti, senior journalist and author; Dr. Jayant Kashyap, scriptwriter and professor at Ramanujan College for the last12 years; Ms. Divya Jain, writer and powerful speaker; and Ms. Swati Parmar, from Jawaharlal Nehru University. Tapas Bhardwaj, former Head Boy of DPS R. K. Puram; Dr. Sandhya Singh of the NCERT; and Ms. Rachna Singh of Delhi University graced the occasion with their presence. The Head of the Hindi Department, Ms. Jyoti Bakshi, welcomed the judges and felicitated them with plants. She addressed the gathering, highlighting the beauty of the language and its deep links with Indian culture.
The Programme coordinator, Mrs. Fatma Kirmani introduced the esteemed judges – specialists in theatre, poetry, media and literature – to the gathering. She said a deep thinking and vision was involved in ‘Bhasha Utsav.’ It was not just another series of competitions, but a platform for the tech-savvy students, who are engrossed in the virtual world of Facebook, Whatsapp and Internet to enhance their ability to speak about the issues related to society and the country at large.
The Utsav opened with Kahani Manchan where the children gave brilliant theatrical performances based on the stories of renowned authors of Indian literature. The participants not only entertained the audience but also made them think on the social evils that they tried to highlight through their performances.
Kavita Path was skillfully designed to provide an environment for children to learn to fight against the evils of society through recital of poems beautifully crafted in satire .In the On-the Spot story writing event ‘Rachnatmak Lekhan’ children got an opportunity not just to hone their poetry and story writing skills but also to voice their opinions and give wings to their imagination. Last but not the least was ‘Vad Vivad Pratiyogita’ on the topic “Hindi bin na kaam sadhe’ yet another attempt to highlight the importance of Hindi language. Steeped in intense emotions and skilful presentations, Bhasha Utsav left and enduring impression on the spectators and audience with its strong intellectual content and spirit.
The event brochure was released by the Chief Guest to tremendous applause followed by a melodious song by the talented singers of the host school.
The valedictory function commenced with beautiful dances ‘Ai ri sakhi’ and ‘Moko Kahan Dhundhe Re Bande’ by the students of DPS R.K. Puram. The Chief Guest, Mr. Sagar appreciated the performances and the hard work of all the participants. Mr. Ghamandilal Agrawal and Tapas Bhardwaj also expressed their appreciation. Addressing the students, the Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini stressed on the need to promote and take pride in Hindi language.
In the awards tally, DPS R. K. Puram secured the first position in Kahaani Manchan followed by DPS Vasant Kunj and DPS Noida in the second and third position. Vaad Vivaad was won by DPS R. K. Puram, while DPS Sushant Lok bagged the second position followed by Modern School, Barakhamba in the third. Kavita Paath was won by DPS Rohini; and the second and third positions were secured by DPS Noida and Mother’s International School. In Rachnaatmak Lekhan, DPS R. K. Puram, Summer Fields School, Kailash Colony ;and DPS Dwarka secured the first, second and third positions in story writing, while DPS Rohini, DPS Gurgaon and DPS Dwarka bagged the first, second and third positions respectively in poetry writing.
The overall winner was DPS Noida while DPS R. K. Puram was the runner’s up. The Trophy was however passed on to DPS Rohini in the 3rd position. The event was an enriching experience for all present, and was made a success due to the efforts of the teachers of the Hindi department and the 400 students involved.
THE MATHEMATICAL CRUSADE 2015
The Annual Mathematical Crusade 2015, was organized by ‘Matsoc’, The Mathematical Society of Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram on 14th December 2015. 70 teams from various national and international schools participated in the competitive events including a team from DPS Sharjah.
The Guests and judges for the occasion were Mr. Sajith Pai, Associate Vice President of Bennett University; Mr. Sanjeev Narang who is in the adhesive business; Dr. Megha Agarwal, Head of Department of Mathematics at Ramanujan College; Dr. Jonaki Ghosh, Assistant Professor in the Department of Elementary Education, Lady Shri Ram College; and Mr. Poshak Agrawal, Co-Founder of Athena Education. Also present were our alumni Shikhar Shiromani, Rohit Jain and Anant Ashutosh as judges . The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini; The Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta; Mr. Anil Kathuria, Head of the Mathematics Department along with his team of teachers from the Mathematics department were present on the occasion.
The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of the guests followed by a harmonious performance by the school orchestra. The audience was enthralled by a Kathak and a Ballet performance. A mesmerising Sanskrit Shloka Recitation, explained various concepts of Mathematics. Mr Sajith Pai addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of mathematics and problem solving in everyday life. The new edition of the annual school maths magazine, ‘Mathyard’ was released. The Presidents of the ‘Matsoc’ welcomed all the participants and highlighted the achievements of the students in various inter school competitions.
The program consisted of six competitive onsite events including Problem Solving, a Quiz, a Crossword, a Powerpoint Presentation, a Model Making Competition and a Surprise Event along with two online events Cryptic Hunt and Bennett Crusade. Problem Solving gave the students an interactive platform to showcase their problem solving ability in Mathematics. The Quiz consisted of a preliminary and a final round and saw teams answering challenging application based questions. Crossword to test trivia and mathematical knowledge of the participants. Other highlights were the Model Making event, where students had to assemble a mathematical model on the spot and a ‘Powerpoint Presentation’, where the students made presentations on mathematics and its application in various fields. In the online Cryptic Hunt , the participants had to crack series of cryptic levels. At each level they would encounter number of clues.’Bennett Crusade’ required the students to submit an essay on the ‘Need for India to have Entrepreneurial Engineers.’
Problem Solving was won by DPS Faridabad, while DPS R.K. Puram and Modern School, Barakhamba Road came second and Sanskriti School came third. DPS Noida won the first prize in the Quiz, followed by DPS R K Puram and DPS Vasant Kunj in the second place and DPS Dwarka in the third places . Crossword was bagged by DPS Rohini, the second position by DPS Dwarka while the third prize went to Modern School, Barakhamba Road. The Air force School, Subroto Park secured the first position in the Powerpoint Presentation, DPS Dwarka came second while DPS Mathura Road won the third position. Model Making was bagged by DPS Dwarka followed by DPS Sushant Lok in the second and DPS R.K. Puram and Rukmini Devi School in the third position. DPS Dwarka came first in the surprise event while DPS Rohini came second and DPS Noida third. The Overall winner was DPS Dwarka followed by DPS R K Puram and DPS Rohini at the second position and DPS Noida at the third position.
This event served as an effective forum for all math enthusiasts to share their interests and was an enriching experience for one and all.
THE 8TH ARMAAN DOGRA MEMORIAL GLOBAL INTER SCHOOL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT CLOSING CEREMONEY
The closing ceremony of the 8th Armaan Dogra Memorial Global Inter-school Football Tournament took place on the 18th of December 2015 at DPS R.K.Puram. It is an annual event held in the memory of Armaan Dogra, an exemplary student who passed away in an unfortunate accident. Armaan was a zealous football player and an ardent fan of the football club, Manchester United. Excelling not only in the field of academics, he was proficient in other co-curricular activities, like acting, dancing, and sports. He impressed one and all with his immense zest for life.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp. The Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini felicitated the Chief Guest, Mr. Rajat Sharma, Padma Bhushan awardee, Chairman, and Editor-in-Chief of the prominent Hindi news channel, India TV. Mr.Rajat Sharma is one of India’s most phenomenal orators and journalists, who garnered a lot of acclaim for his T.V.show, ‘Aap ki Adalat’. Also present on the occasion were Armaan’s parents, Dr. P.N.Dogra and his wife along with other family members; the Vice Principals, Mrs. Shobha Mehta, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, Ms.Padma Srinivasan, Mrs. Renu Nayar; Headmistress, Ms. Anita Singh, and Mr. N. Suresh, the Head of the Physical Education Department.
The Principal, Dr. D.R.Saini, extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, Mr.Rajat Sharma and called him an inspiration for young people.
Dr. P.N. Dogra, father of Armaan Dogra and head of the Department of Urology at AIIMS, paid his respect to the chief guest and added, “Armaan lived a short but king-sized life, and he still remains alive in everyone’s hearts.” He believed that this initiative will keep Armaan’s memories alive forever. He acknowledged the school’s effort and support that made the event a huge success.
The cultural programme constituted of a soulful performance by the school choir and a Punjabi folk dance.
Addressing the students, the chief guest, Mr. Rajat Sharma, said that the tournament was an inspiration for all aspiring sportsmen. According to him, sports is a binding force which brings people together. He shared his childhood memories with the students, narrating a few anecdotes from his life. He had an interactive session with the audience, where curious students asked various questions about his achievements and about his path to success.
The tournament was an exciting 3 day event in which 8 prominent schools took part. In the much anticipated prize distribution ceremony for the Intra-School segment, the best player prize of class 6,7,8 was awarded to Anuj Gupta of 6A, C.R. Pant of 7B and Parth Kothari of 8A, respectively; The overall winners were 6A, 7J, and 8J, in their respective classes. In the Inter-school segment, the ‘best defender’ was Arnav Chawla and the ‘best goalkeeper’ ,Mahir Veer Hora of DPS R.K. Puram, while Himanshu Manocha of Modern School, Barakhamba Road was awarded ‘The best striker of the tournament’. ‘The best player of the tournament’ title was given to Mahir Veer Hora of DPS R.K.Puram. In the final match of the Global Inter school Football tournament, DPS R,K,Puram defeated Modern School, Barakhamba Road by 2-1, to win the overall trophy.The Runners Up trophy for the event was presented to Modern School, Barakhamba Road.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the Vice Principal, Mrs.Shobha Mehta and the event concluded with the felicitation of Referees, and Coaches, followed by the National Anthem.
G. BHASKAR MEMORIAL LECTURE AND AWARD CEREMONY 2015
The G. Bhaskar Memorial lecture and award ceremony was organised on 15th December 2015 at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram in remembrance of G. Bhaskar, a very promising student, who joined the institution in class 8th. Lost in the crowd initially, Bhaskar slowly and steadily made place in the hearts of his fellow students and teachers. An extremely talented and hardworking student, not only did he excel in academics, but was also a great badminton player and played in school’s table tennis team. He also had formal training in Classical Carnatic music and could recite several chapters of the Shrimad Bhagwat Gita. Unfortunately, his success ended with his early demise. The award has been instituted in his beloved memory since 1999 by the family of G.Bhaskar. This award is given to exceptional students, who not only excel in academics and co-curricular activities but also display a strong moral fibre.
The Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini; the Vice Principal, Ms. Shobha Mehta, Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayar, Supervisor, Mr. Mukesh Kumar and G. Bhaskar’s father, Mr. Ganapati Raman were present during the ceremony. The ceremony began with a minute of silence observed in G. Bhaskar’s honour. Ms. Prarthna Saran, who is a senior lecturer from Delhi University and has been associated with the Chinmaya Mission for more than 30 years, gave a detailed account of the Gita in the present context. Ms. Sangeeta Rana coordinated the event.
The award was given to 13 meritorious students who, along with excelling in academics and co-curriculars, possessed a high moral character. Mr. Ganpati, father of G.Bhaskar, along with his family; Vice Principals Dr. Renu Nayar and Ms. Shobha Mehta; and Mukesh Kumar, Supervisor and Head of Computer Science Department, presented the awards.
Mr. Mukesh Kumar shared his unforgettable moments with G. Bhaskar as his teacher and conveyed to the student audience to enjoy each moment of life and make each moment memorable like him. Mr. Ramnath, the elder brother of G. Bhaskar concluded the event by sharing exquisite memories of Bhaskar. The Chinmaya Mission and Bhaskar’s family members gave a token of their blessing, distributing books and sweets to the students.
8TH ARMAAN DOGRA MEMORIAL FOOTBALL GLOBAL INTER SCHOOL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT-OPENING CEREMONY
The opening ceremony of the 8th Armaan Dogra Memorial Football Global Inter-school Football Tournament took place on the 15th of December 2015 at DPS R.K.Puram. It is an annual event held in the memory of Armaan Dogra, a meritorious student who passed away in an unfortunate incident in Saudi Arabia on the 12th of June, 2008. Armaan was an all-rounder in the true sense of the word. Not only did he play football passionately, he also excelled in lawn tennis, skating, swimming, and table tennis. He was also a great dancer and singer. The ‘Armaan Dogra Best all-rounder award for the most outstanding student of class 8’ is given in his memory.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp. The Principal, Dr. D.R.Saini felicitated the Chief Guest, Dr. M.C. Mishra, Director at AIIMS and Chief of JPN Apex Trauma Centre; and the guest of honour, Mr.Anadi Barua, the chief coach of the national women’s senior football team who is also a FIFA diploma holder in coaching. According to Dr.Saini, though Armaan is not with us now his fond memories are cherished by one and all. Also present at the event were Armaan’s parents, Dr.P.N.Dogra and his wife along with other family members; the Vice Principals, Mrs. Shobha Mehta, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, Ms.Padma Srinivasan; Headmistress, Ms. Anita Singh, and Mr.N.Suresh, the Head of the Physical Education department.
The chief guest, Dr. M.C. Mishra administered the oath to the participants. He remarked that the initiative was not only an opportunity for children to participate and learn the qualities of teaming up, but also a great way to remember the dear departed. He complimented the parents of Armaan, and the school for the efforts. An enthralling classical dance performance was followed by a mellifluous composition by the school choir. Dr. P.N. Dogra, father of Armaan Dogra and Head of Department of Urology, AIIMS, spoke of the great memories he held with his son and how the tournament aimed at promoting football, while also cherishing his son’s passion for the sport.
The guests were introduced to the team members and the much anticipated match began with the release of balloons. The inaugural match took place between the host school, DPS R.K. Puram and DPS Mathura Road.
The ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta. The tournament continues till the 18th of December, 2015.
Opening match played between DPS R K Puram V/s DPS Mathura Road. DPS R K Puram defeated DPS Mathura Road by 5-4 in the tie breaker. In another match MNSS Rai, Sonepat defeated Iragi School, Vasant Kunj by 3-0.

DR. PREM KIRPAL MEMORIAL ART & POETRY COMPETITION
Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram hosted the annual Dr. Prem Kirpal Memorial Inter-School Art and Poetry competition ‘Art Poetica’ on 10 December 2015 in the fond memory of the former Chairman of DPS Society, Dr. P. N. Kirpal.
The Chairman of the DPS Society, Mr V. K. Shunglu, was the Chief Guest at the Prize Distribution Ceremony. The Guest of Honour was Mrs Aruna Kirpal, wife of Chief Justice B. N. Kirpal (Retd.). Rear Admiral M. M. Chopra, Vice Chairman of DPS Society; Mr Pramod Grover, Treasurer of DPS Society and Vice Chairman of DPS R.K. Puram Managing Committee; Mrs. Renu Mital, Director of DPS Society; Prof. B. P. Khandelwal, Dr. Usha Luthra, and Mr. Narendra Kumar, Members of DPS Society; Mr. Manohar Lal, Principal of DPS Mathura Road and Mrs. Bindhu Sehgal, Principal of DPS Vasant Kunj also graced the occasion with their presence. The guests were welcomed by the Principal, Dr. D. R. Saini, the Vice Principals, Mrs. Shobha Mehta, Ms. Vanita Sehgal and Ms. Padma Srinivasan; the Headmistress, Mrs. Anita Singh and Mrs.Savita Vasesi, the Head of English Department.
Students from 22 schools participated in the competitive events which included ‘Blend Art’, ‘Artistic Poesy’, ‘Lyrical Canvas’, ’Stage-A-Verse’, ‘Double Harness ’, and ‘Lime-In-Rhyme’. The events were held simultaneously at multiple venues. Blend Art involved recitation, dramatization and painting of the essence of a poem selected by the participants. In Artistic Poesy, participants composed a ballad on the five paintings given as a prompt. Lyrical Canvas required participants to make a monochromatic painting on the emotion prevalent in a line of a famous poem. ‘Stage-A-Verse’ had participants writing and enacting a skit in verse on a given prompt. In Double Harness, the participants formed couplets on the basis of three prompts – a line, a word and an emotion given to each student in three rounds. ’Lime-In-Rhyme’ was a limerick composing competition. The events were assessed by a team of eminent judges.
The Valedictory function commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the guests. The cultural programme included a colourful performance by the students of DPS R. K. Puram, depicting the journey of philosophy down the ages through a fusion of song, dance and drama in verse. In his address to the audience, the Principal, Dr. D. R. Saini, expressed his gratitude to the Kirpal family for their constant support.
Blend Art was won by DPS R. K. Puram, followed by Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan; DPS Noida and DPS Vasant Kunj shared the third position. Vasant Valley School bagged the first position in Artistic Poesy; DPS Mathura Road and Amity International School, Saket came second and third respectively. DPS R. K. Puram won Lyrical Canvas; followed by The Indian School and DPS Gurgaon. First, second and third positions of Stage-A-Verse were secured by Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan; DPS Noida and DPS Mathura Road respectively. DPS Gurgaon won the first prize for Double Harness followed by DPS Bulandshahar and St. George’s School. Lime-In-Rhyme was won by DPS Indirapuram; while DPS R. K. Puram and Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan were awarded second and third prizes.
The overall winner was DPS R.K.Puram followed by Springdales, Dhaula Kuan and DPS Mathura Road at the second and third positions. Since DPS R.K.Puram was the host school, the trophy was handed over to Springdales School. Ms Vanita Sehgal, Incharge of the English Department delivered the vote of thanks and commended the efforts of her team of teachers and students. The programme ended with the national anthem.
INTERNATIONAL PHYSICS SYMPOSIUM – “EDISON CONVENTION”
“Physoc”, the Physics Society of Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram hosted the Edison Convention – an International-school Physics Symposium on 9th December 2015.
560 students from 40 schools from all over India, and abroad participated in this event. Students participated in various on-site events. There were also two online events in which 160 students participated.
The Edison Convention was presided over by the chief guests Dr. Muktesh Chander; IPS, and Special Commissioner (Traffic) Delhi Police, and Dr. Abani Mohan Mandal, Nuclear Scientist from Inter University Particle Accelerator and Mr Ankur Suman,Creative Head at RK Swamy BBDO. The Principal, Dr. D.R.Saini; The Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta, and Mr J.S. Virdi; Head of Department of Physics, and Mrs. Archna Deepak; teacher in charge of ‘Physoc’ were also present.

Saini addressed the gathering, and extended a warm welcome to all the guests. He spoke about the importance of physics, and how events like these allow children to meet with people having similar interests. Dr. Mandal spoke to the audience about the presence of physics in the different spheres of life, and motivated the children to delve into the invention of sustainable technologies. Dr. Muktesh Chander had an interactive session with the audience, discussing the various laws, and theories of physics that have led to progression in our lives.

The onsite events included a “Quiz” in which there were four rounds, “Ad-dict” where the students enacted advertisements which had topics like ‘Earth 2.0’, and ‘Invisibility Kid’, “Demo” where children presented scientific models, “Surprise Event” in which children were given clues leading to a treasure hunt spanning the entire school. There were two online events – “Comic Strip” in which students were asked to submit comic strips on different topics, and “Phyctures” in which participants clicked pictures, and explained the idea behind their pictures.
The events were judged by a panel of respected judges comprising Mr. Devanik Saha, Mr. Ankur Suman, and Mr. Rishabh Sanghi. A video showcasing the events that took place throughout the day was shown. It received an immense amount of appreciation from its spectators.
“Quiz” was won by Modern School Barakhamba Road, while Sanskriti School came second, and DPS Vasant Kunj came third. DPS Vasant Kunj won the first prize in “Ad-Dict”, followed by DPS Panipat, and DPS Meerut in the second and third places respectively. “Demo” was bagged by Red Rose Public School, the second position by Hansraj Model School while the third prize went to Springdales, Dhaula Kuan. Modern School, Barakhamba Road secured the first position in “Surprise Event”, Convent of Jesus and Mary School came second while DPS Dwarka third. “Comic Strip” was won by DPS Vijaypur followed by the British School, and DPS Gurgaon in second, and third position respectively. DPS Vasant Kunj came first in “Phyctures” while Springdales Dhaula Kuan came second, and DPS Gurgaon third. The overall winner was Modern School, Barakhamba Road; followed by DPS Vasant Kunj as the 1st runner up. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. J. S. Virdi.
The event enlightened all its participants, and onlookers. The Edison Convention was successful in spiking their curiosity for Physics as they participated in all the dynamic events. Students left the event with an enthusiasm to discover, and learn more about Physics.

SCHOLAR BADGE 2015 CLASS XII SECTIONS I-O,R-V, W, X
The Scholar Badge ceremony of class XII sections I-O, R-V, W and X was held at DPS R.K. Puram on 7th December 2015. The ceremony is a much anticipated event in the school calendar as meritorious students, both, in the fields of academics as well as extracurricular, are honoured on stage.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Mr. Pramod Grover, Honorary Treasurer of DPS Society and Vice Chairman, DPS R.K.Puram Managing Committee. The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini and the Vice Principal, Mrs Shobha Mehta were also present.
The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp and felicitation of the Chief Guest. The Principal, Dr. D.R Saini addressed the gathering and talked about the glorious history of the DPS Society and the various achievements of the school.
The event began with a mellifluous composition performed by the school orchestra, which was followed by a classical dance venerating Lord Ganesh. A video highlighting Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram’s achievements in academics, extra-curricular and sports was showcased to the audience, receiving a tremendous round of applause from the audience. Students of the school recited several Sanskrit shlokas which was followed by a Bharatnatyam dance. A few students of class XII recalled their memorable experiences and learning from the school. They drew references from the inspirational words of leaders such as Malala Yousafzai, Swami Vivekananda, and Steve Jobs.
A motivational video about Steve Jobs’ path to success was showcased.
The chief guest, Mr. Pramod Grover, commended DPS R.K.Puram,”for keeping the flag of Indian culture high.” He congratulated the school for inculcating in students the right set of values and life skills needed in the future.
The Class Representative, Dr. Sachinder Sharma conducted the Awards Distribution ceremony. The Chief Guest, Mr. Pramod Grover, The Principal, Dr. D.R Saini, and the Vice Principal, Mrs Shobha Mehta presented the scholar badges, blazers and certificates to the worthy students.
The Vice Principal, Mrs Shobha Mehta, proposed the vote of thanks and the ceremony ended with the National Anthem.

DPS Science Festival 2015
Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram was the proud host of the Annual Inter DPS Science Festival held on 4th December 2015 under the aegis of the DPS Society. It included various inter-school competitions. 43 DPS schools across the nation actively participated in various activities in the diverse field of science.
The inaugural function commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Rear Admiral M.M. Chopra, Vice Chairman, DPS Society and Mrs. Renu Mital, Director, DPS Society. The Guest of Honour was Prof. Harish Chaudhary from IIT Delhi. The Chief Guest for the valedictory function was Mr. Pramod Grover, Vice Chairman, DPS R.K.Puram Managing Committee and Honorary Treasurer of the DPS Society. The judges for the various events were Dr. Geetu Gambhir, Prof. Debal Singharoy, Mr. Rajesh Tiwari, Mrs. Meenakshi Mishra, Mr. Karmanye Thadani and Mrs. Suman Sagar. Also present were the Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini; Vice Principals; Mrs. Shobha Mehta, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, Dr. Renu Nayar and Ms. Padma Srinivasan along with the coordinators of the event, Mr. J.S. Virdi, Head of Department of Physics and Mr. Prem Dhawan, Head of Department of Chemistry; and their team of teachers.
The cultural programme consisted of a ‘Ganesh Vandana’ followed by a mesmerising recitation of Sanskrit Shlokas. The Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta welcomed the guests and students and highlighted the importance of teaching as well as learning science. The Guest of Honour, Prof. Harish Chaudhary addressed the gathering talking about his experience in the field of science and how a scientific temperament needs to be inculcated in students.
There were two online and four onsite events. The online activities comprised “Scientific Fun Game” in which the students had to design and create a game to explain a basic principle of science and “A Book of Ideas” where the participants shared ideas regarding nutritious food, volunteer and distribution programs in the effective management of school canteens. The onsite events included “Sci-Quiz” which saw teams answering questions on ‘The Importance of Food Quality’ and ‘Safety in our lives’; ”Science App – Fun With Chemicals” in which students were shown experimental setups and were asked questions on them; “JAM” (Just A Minute) which included topics such as natural calamities, food processing, natural resources and how to solve issues of illiteracy and poverty and “Creative Xpression” showcased topics like Chemistry in the Kitchen, Space Tourism and Nanotechnology through advertisements enacted by the students.
The valedictory function began with the felicitation of the guests. The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini addressed the audience and welcomed the chief guest for the evening. Soon after, a kathak dance performance ‘Tarana’ enthralled the audience. A video was presented providing a glimpse of the events held during the day. The chief guest, Mr. Pramod Grover, rekindled his fond memories and association with DPS Schools and emphasised on the importance of interaction among students through such programmes.
The prize distribution ceremony was conducted by Mr. Grover, Dr. Saini, Mrs. Shobha Mehta, Ms. Vanita Sehgal and Ms. Padma Srinivasan. The winners of all the events were awarded certificates and trophies.
“JAM – Just A Minute” was won by DPS Rohini, while DPS Jalandhar came second and DPS Indirapuram came third. DPS Moradabad won the first prize in the “Science App – Fun With Chemicals ”, followed by DPS Jalandhar and DPS Rohini in the second and third places respectively. “Sci-Quiz” was bagged by DPS R.K. Puram, the second position by DPS Dwarka while the third prize went to DPS Mathura Road. DPS Greater Noida secured the first position in “Creative Xpression”, DPS Gurgaon came second while DPS Rohini won third position. “Scientific Fun Games” was won by DPS Hyderabad followed by DPS Greater Noida and DPS Chandigarh in second and third position respectively. DPS Vasant Kunj came first in “A Book of Ideas” while DPS Noida came second and DPS R.K. Puram third. The overall winner was DPS Rohini.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta. Students uncovered their scientific abilities by exploring the various realms of the subject in the events. The Annual Inter-DPS Science Festival proved to be an enlightening and inspiring event for all its participants and spectators.
