Exun 2015 Inter-School IT Symposium

Exun Clan, the Computer Club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, hosted its 20th Inter-School IT Symposium, EXUN 2015 on the 28th and 29th of November 2015. The event was sponsored by Intel, StartEdu, Unity Group and Microsoft Research. Exun, short for ‘Experts Unlimited’, was founded by the Head of the Computer Science department, Mr. Mukesh Kumar and a small group of computer enthusiasts in the year 1992. Exun Alumni members is an elite group of computer enthusiasts of all ages. This year, with over 800+ participants from 40+ schools, Exun organised 15 different IT events.

Present at the opening of the event were the Principal, Dr. D. R. Saini; the Headmistress, Ms. Anita Singh; and Mr. Mukesh Kumar, the Head of the Computer Science department along with his team of Computer Science Teachers and technology support team.

The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp. The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini addressed the gathering and extended a warm welcome to all the guests. He spoke about the importance of technology in our lives and the prevalence of honesty and merit. A short Exun video was presented highlighting the various competitions the event would include, receiving a huge round of applause by the audience.

The event was given a head start with Mr. Ankit Buti of Buti Technologies. He spoke about the culture of startups and entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley. On the first day, 6 events including Senior and Junior Quizzes, Group Debate, Crossword, Intel’s Teacher Learn and Intel’s Student S Learn workshops were held. Sudocrypt v5.0, the online cryptic hunt, was another initiative by Exun that witnessed 63646 submissions from 1338 participants from over 26 countries around the world.

The second day consisted of the final rounds for the Junior Quiz, Senior Quiz, Crossword, and Gaming; along with Build Pitches, Swat the Bug and Learn-CS research. The guest of the closing ceremony was Mr. Sandeep Aurora, Director Marketing and Marketing development, Intel. He spoke about the culture of innovation in India, motivating the children to participate more actively in India’s technological progress. He also congratulated girls participating in the technology events and conveyed that more girls should come forward to join in technology related programmes and initiatives. According to him, India is poised to be the technological leader of the globe in the near future. Mr. Sandeep Aurora, Mr. Ankit Buti, Mr. Monojit Choudhary of Microsoft Research and Mr. Mukesh Kumar gave away the awards.

The events were judged by Mr. Ankit Buti, Mr. Monojit Choudhary along with Exun alumni Adideva Sekhri, Parth Mittal, Shiven Mian, Vishesh Balani, and Bharat Kashyap. Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, emerged out as the Overall Winners of the event.

It was, indeed, a learning experience for all the participants.

GITA SHLOKA RECITATION COMPETITION HELD AT LAXMAN PUBLIC SCHOOL

S.Shruti of Class VII A bagged the first prize in the Gita Shloka recitation competition in category VI-VIII.held at Laxman Public School on 4th November 2015.She received a certificate and a trophy.

INTER-SCHOOL COMPETITIONS ORGENISED BY THE DELHI SANSKRIT ACADEMY

The Delhi Sanskrit Academy organized various Inter-school Competitions from the 16th to 23rd November 2015.

The Sanskrit students of classes IX G and X J participated and bagged prizes in various competitions like Sloka Sangeet , Kavyali ,Vaad Vivad, Bhashan and Shlokochharan organised by the Delhi Sanskrit Academy , on 20th November 2015. Saisha Moonga of class IX G of DPS R.K.Puram bagged the 1st prize ( cash prize of Rs 1200/-) in the Bhashan Pratiyogita at the Zonal level and she qualified for the next level.



THE INTERSCHOOL (NATIONAL) CHEMISTRY SYMPOSIUM -SPARK 2015

Catalyst, the Chemistry club of Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram organised ‘Spark 2015 ‘,an International Chemistry Symposium on 24th November 2015 at its School Premises. Around 70 schools from across the nation participated in the numerous competitions organized by the club.

The Chief Guest for the event was DrR.K..Sharma. The judges for the event were Dr.Upasana Issar, Dr.Veena Verma, Dr.Smriti Bhatia an Ms.Vinita Malani .Those present on the occasion included the Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini; the Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta; the Head of the Chemistry Department, Mr. Prem Dhawan and all the teachers of the chemistry department. The guest of honour for the event were Dr.A.K. Bakshi and Mr. Rakesh D. Hirani

The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of the guests. A short video was shown, highlighting the achievements of ‘Catalyst’, the chemistry club. The Head of the Chemistry Department, Mr. Prem Dhawan addressed the gathering and warmly welcomed all the participants. The Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini spoke about the significance of Chemistry in everyday life. This was followed by a Bharatnatyam dance performance by the students. The Chief Guest,
Dr. R K Sharma, highlighted the importance of Green Chemistry. Catalyst, the magazine put together by the chemistry club was unveiled along with the magazine made by the Pre-Pharmacy club.

The program consisted of four competitive events -Act-inium, Chem-Canvas, Chem-Bowl and Turncoat. ‘Chem-Canvas’,The Art competition was on the topic Green Chemistry Clean Chemistry. ‘Chem -Bowl’, the chemistry quiz took place in two rounds, the preliminary and final round and ‘Act-inium’, an Ads Act competition, where students promoted fictitious products such as mosquito repellents and soul sweeteners. Turncoat ,the debate competition, was also held.

The Guest of honour talked about the importance of chemistry and improvements in the approach to Chemistry

In the prize distribution ceremony, the overall winner of the event was Somerville School. Noida .The first position in the turncoat was ITL Public School Delhi. Somerville School Noida won the first prize in the Chem Canvas . The Chem bowl quiz was won by Delhi Public School Hissar. Act-inium- the Ads Act was bagged by Step by Step , Noida..

It was a memorable experience for all the students.

‘PANCHTATVA-THE ELEMENTS OF NATURE’ – AN INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENT FESTIVAL

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized its annual environmental festival ‘Panchtatva- The five Elements of Nature’ on 20th November 2015. ‘Panchtatva’ was a mega event which saw the participation of 63 schools from India and countries like Australia, Qatar, Sharjah and USA. The theme of the event was ‘Conserve biodiversity for sustainable development’. A collaborative effort of the Environment and Geography Clubs of the school, the festival comprised of 10 competitions in two main online and onsite activities.

‘Panchtatva Saviours’ is a team of dedicated members from the Environment and the Geography Club of DPS R. K. Puram striving to ensure a clean and green tomorrow. The team aims to inculcate ‘Responsible Green Values’ amongst the students through Intra- and Inter-school activities.

Shri Shashi Kant Sharma, Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) of India, was the chief guest for the event. Rear Admiral M.M Chopra and . Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini presided over the function.. Dr. B.C. Sabat, School Environment Club in-charge, Government of NCT Delhi, Ms Padma Srinivasan, Vice-Principal , Ms. Anita Singh, Headmistress (VI-VII) and Mr S.K.Arora, HOD, Biology also graced the occasion. Mr.Mukesh Kumar, HOD- Computer Science Department, Ms. Rupa Das, HOD-Geography and Ms. Niva Chhonkar, HOD-Biotechnology were the event Co-ordinators.

Competitions like ‘Dance of the Elements of Nature’ and ‘Street Play on the Green Road’, were conducted during the festival along with the other online events like Green Rhymes , Green-o-tisement, eZoom in eZoom out.

‘Dance on the elements of nature’on the theme of ‘From blue to green save the scene’ was judged by Dr. Carreen.Pakrasi, an Environment enthusiast and Senior Consultant at Medanta Hospital and Mr. Hemant Kumar, famous choreographer . The judges for the street play competition on the topic ‘Crush the greed and go green’ were Mr. Amitabh Pandey, and Mr. Rajesh Tiwari, theatre activist and educator from Shree Ram School of Performing Arts.

The valedictory ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp and felicitation of the guests by the Principal. A mesmerising Ganesh Vandana and a welcome song were performed and students shared their views on environment. A scintillating folk dance titled ‘From Kashmir to Kanyakumari’ won the hearts of the audience.

Rear-Admiral M.M. Chopra shed light upon how throughout history, culture and religion, humans have always worshipped the sun, the creator of the five elements, and the significance of the Gayatri Mantra in this regard.

The esteemed chief guest, Mr. Shashi Kant Sharma appreciated the students’ and teachers’ efforts in spreading awareness and knowledge about conserving the elements and, and talked about the four R’s- Reuse, reduce, recycle and return.

Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini stressed on the importance of conserving the five elements- earth, air, water, fire and sky.

The winners of the dance competition were Sri Venkateshwara International School, Dwarka. Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram was placed second and Delhi Public School Indirapuram came third.

St. Thomas School bagged first position in the Street play competition with Delhi Public School, Mathura Road in second place. Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram bagged the third position. Father Agnel School and Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj were awarded consolation prizes.

The overall winners were DPS R.K.Puram but being the host school the trophy was passed on to Modern Vidya Niketan, Aravalli Hills.

The magazines of the Geography club- Geomania and the Environment Club- Terravision were launched. The day concluded with the Prize Distribution Ceremony.

The vote of thanks was delivered by the Headmistress, Ms. Anita Singh.

THE 31ST DELHI STATE SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP

The 31st Delhi State Shooting Championship was held at Dr.Karni Singh Shooting Range, Tughlakabad between 3rd-6th October 2015. Chetanya Gaur of class XII -X won a Gold Medal in the 10m Air Pistol Shooting event in the Junior Category and a Silver Medal in the Youth Category. Shirene Singh of Class XI won a Bronze Medal in the Youth Category



THE XIX DELHI STATE INTER SCHOOL SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP

The XIX Delhi State Inter School Shooting Competition 2015 was held from 20th-23rd August at Manav Rachna University Shooting Ranges. Shirene Singh of class XI won the Silver Medal in the 10m Air Pistol Shooting event in the Youth Category.
