Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class X at DPS R.K.Puram

Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram organized its annual Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class X on 23rd December 2011 to felicitate students for proficiency in academics and co-curricular activities. The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Mr B P Singh, who was the Chief Guest for the day.

The Principal, Dr. D. R. Saini, warmly welcomed the chief guest and the parents. He traced the history of DPS Society and DPS R.K. Puram.

The cultural programme commenced with a soothing instrumental performance. The school choir enthralled one and all with their captivating musical composition. This enchanting experience was followed by a beautifully coordinated fusion of Kathak and Bharatnatyam. Students voiced their opinion on being the master of one’s destiny. They also shed light on the achievements of the school in the arena of academics, sports, music and art. The students of DPS Shiksha Kendra showcased their talent through an exuberant dance performance. The Chief Guest, through a few anecdotes, highlighted the importance of hard work, perseverance and dedication in paving the way to success.

The Representative for Class X, Ms. Sohini Chakravarty initiated the most eagerly awaited part of the ceremony – the prize distribution. Students were awarded blue and green badges for continuous academic excellence and red ties, blazers and badges were given to students excelling in extra-curricular activities like sports, music and dance.

The ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms.Vanita Sehgal, Headmistress of Classes VIII-X. It was a proud moment for one and all.



Meet the writer

‘Meet the writer ‘ was an initiative to interact with the renowned Hindi writer Sri Prakash Manu which was held on 23rd December 2011 by the members of Hindi Club. All the students of Hindi Club and two representatives of all the sections of VI to X i

nteracted with the writer to know about writing skills.



Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class X at DPS R.K.Puram

On 22 December 2011 , DPS R.K Puram hosted the Scholar Badge ceremony for Class X. The occasion was graced by the presence of Mr. Vineet Joshi , the Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The event commenced with a musical performance which left the audience spellbound. The school choir presented an ebullient self-composed song, “Love and friendship”. This enchanting experience was followed by a beautifully coordinated fusion of kathak and bharatnatyam , the apsara dance and a Spanish dance by the students of DPS Shiksha Kendra. The Principal , Dr D.R. Saini welcomed all the dignitaries and parents.

The Principal expressed his views about CCE and the importance of formative assessment. He presented the various achievements of the school before the audience. Students voiced their opinion on achieving one’s true potential , stressing on the importance of overcoming obstacles and achieving the goals of tomorrow. The chief guest, Mr.Vineet Joshi, expressed his views on today’s highly competitive world. According to him, “Instead of competing with immediate neighbours , which can be stressful and can lead to disaster, one must compete with oneself, and not others, to achieve success”.

Finally the wait for the momentous scholar badge distribution ended . Ms Sarika Kaushal, the Representative of Classes 9-10, announced the names of the recipients of the blue badges and blazers for academic excellence and red badges and blazers for achievements in extra-curricular activities. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms Vanita Sehgal , Headmistress of middle school. It was a memorable moment for all the awardees.



Visit of Trinidad and Tobago Delegation to DPS R.K Puram

Delhi Public School, RK Puram had the privilege of hosting the Trinidad and Tobago Reciprocal Exchange Programme 2010-2011. A fifteen member team of students and teachers under the leadership of Dr. Asha Lata Pandey, Head of the Sanskrit Department, had earlier visited Swaha Hindu College, Trinidad in July 2010. In the reciprocal visit, a delegation comprising fourteen members led by the Principal of Swaha Hindu College, Pundit Balram Presad, arrived in the school on 14 December 2011.

The Principal, Dr. D.R Saini warmly welcomed them. The delegates stayed with their host families, which helped them bond even better. They visited the historical cities of Agra, Mathura, Vrindavan, Haridwar and Rishikesh. The students explored the school campus – classrooms, laboratories, libraries, music room etc and interacted with the Indian students and teachers, which provided them with a better understanding of the Indian education system.

A cultural programme was organized in their honour on 21st December presenting an insight into Indian culture. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Ms.Kiva Clarke, Deputy High Commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago. The guest of honour was Lady Shruti Rana from U.K. an acclaimed educationist who is well versed in Sanskrit, music and English. She is doing a commendable work in bringing the traditional knowledge systems in the main stream of education culture. Other guests included Mr. Habees Mohammed, Second Secretary along with the Principal Pundit Balram Presad, his wife Mrs Nalini Presad and Mr. and Mrs. Juteram. The programme commenced with a mesmerizing Indian classical instrumental item by the students, followed by Bharatnatyam-“a Pushpanjali” dance, a classical Russian Ballet performance, a fusion on ‘Satyameva Jayate’ combining traditional and modern dance and a contemporary duet which left everyone enraptured. The delegation was enchanted seeing the vibrant colours and the energy of the Indian dance forms. Students of DPS Shiksha Kendra, a school for the underprivileged run on the premises of the school, presented an exposition on the life of Krishna in the form of a dance drama. Diwakar, a student of class 11 mellifluously sang “chaupais” from “Ramayana”. It was followed by releasing of the first magazine of the Trinidad-India students exchange programme.

The delegation was presented a trophy as a token of appreciation by the host school. The Chief Guest, Ms. Kiva Clarke expressed her delight at visiting India and said that the hospitality of Indians left her awestruck. She was amazed at the immense talent that the Indian students displayed. She expressed her wish that the bonds created by this exchange programme would extend to the future and broaden their perspectives. Lady Shruti Rana sang a few Sanskrit shlokas and explained their relevance to the students.

The delegation concluded the programme with a quintessential performance showcasing some aspects of the culture of Trinidad and Tobago through the medium of group songs, dance and PowerPoint presentations. The presentation also showcased how Indian festivals like Dussehra, Diwali and Holi are celebrated all over Trinidad which left the audience enthralled.

Dr. Asha Lata Pandey, the coordinator of the programme delivered the vote of thanks.
The delegation will be taking a tour of the capital city to see its marvellous treasure trove of monuments like India Gate and Akshardham Temple. They will also have an interactive session and lunch with students of Shree Ram Institute and will have the privilege of meeting the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sheila

Dixit at her residence during their stay. After a grand farewell the delegation will be leaving for Trinidad on 25th December.
Such cultural exchanges are memorable and provide unique opportunities for building bridges by sharing practices and learning about other cultures. It was not just the exchange between the schools but between the two cultures. The Trinidad-India students Exchange will leave behind golden memories to be cherished for years to come.

The ceremony started with the lightning of the lamp.An Indian classical instrumental performance followed. The Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini warmly welcomed all the guests. The chief guest for the day was Mr.Manu Sawhney, Managing Director, ESPN Software India and an ex-student of DPS R.K. Puram.

The students of DPS Vasant Vihar presented a fusion dance titled “Aashayen” on the song ‘Barso re megha’. The choir sang the song “Badal pe paon hain”. The students shared their views on the theme, ‘Practice makes perfect.’ A video about the success stories of eminent sports personalities was shown. . Various achievements of the school and the students were listed.

The students of DPS Shiksha Kendra performed a beautiful dance. The chief guest, Mr.Sawhney shared his experiences as a student in DPS R.K.Puram and what the school meant to him. The much awaited award ceremony began and blue blazers and red badges were presented to the students.

The Headmistress of middle school, Ms.Vanita Sehgal delivered the vote of thanks.

Award Ceremony for Meritorious Students at DPS R.K.Puram

On the 19th of December, 2011, Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram was graced with a visit by Her Excellency, Ms. Jan Henderson, the High Commissioner of New Zealand for India. She was accompanied by Ms.Jugnu Roy, the Education Marketing Manager and students from New Zealand’s prestigious Auckland Grammar School.

An award ceremony was conducted in the school auditorium, wherein Her Excellency, Ms.Henderson presented the students with their respective awards. The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp. This was followed by an Indian classical music performance. The Principal, Dr. D.R.Saini, addressed the gathering and presented the guests with gifts and flowers. Dr.Saini stressed on the need for fostering relationships and friendships between the students of New Zealand and India – dubbing this his new ‘mission’.

A ‘Durga Dance’ by the tiny tots of DPS East of Kailash captivated the audience. An ‘Apsara’ dance following this, by the dancers of DPS R.K.Puram, was met with great applause. The students of DPS Shiksha Kendra, a school for underprivileged children run on the premises of DPS R.K.Puram, performed a ‘Puppet’ dance, which is a folk dance originating from Rajasthan.

Her Excellency, Ms. Jan Henderson addressed the gathering and told the students that anything is possible with education especially when it is combined with passion, hard work and dedication. According to her, the school is not just about academic learning, but about honing talents and inculcating values. She was also eager to establish an association with DPS R.K.Puram. She presented the awards to students who have won laurels for the school in debating, quizzing, dance,music, creative writing and in various competitions in MUN and EXUN.

The Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta delivered the vote of thanks and the ceremony came to a close with the Indian national anthem.



IPSC Teacher Training Workshop 2011

Delhi Public School R K Puram hosted an IPSC Teachers Training workshop on Saturday, 17th December, 2011 in Acoountancy, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Fine Arts & General Knowledge and Physics. 17 renowned Public schools of the country participated in this workshop.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Ashok Chandra Chairman DPS Society and the chief guest Prof. Harish Chaudhry, IIT, Delhi by lighting the lamp. Dr D. R. Saini Principal DPS R K Puram welcomed the chief guest. The inaugural session was addressed by Prof. Harish Chaudhary IIT Delhi, who emphasized on the “Knowledge Based Education”. He said that the education is not curriculum but developing interest of the subject in the students. Students learn more by observation rather than rote learning. Teachers primary duty is to develop an all round personality of the student.

The second speaker Mr. Sandeep Srivastava emphasized that the books are for the students and the teacher is to guide them in their endeavor to knowledge.

Ms. Padma Srinivasan, HOD, History, DPS RKPuram conducted a session on General Knowledge for all the participants.

The post lunch session was subjectwise interaction of teachers with the subject experts. The subject experts were

Interact Club Investiture Ceremony 2011-12

and Preliminary Round of the National Rotary Elocution Compeition

D.P.S. R.K. Puram hosted the preliminary round of the National Rotary Elocution Competition along with the investiture ceremony for the Interact Club for the academic year 2011-12 on the 15th of December 2011. The elocution, held for class 11 students, was on the topic – “Rotary’s role in Polio Eradication.”

The occasion was graced by the presence of three virtuoso judges – Mr. Vikas Gupta, President of the Rotary Qutab, Mrs. Veena Chadha, Secretary of the Rotary Qutab and Ms Anjana Agarwal, Legal Consultant of the Planning Comminssion of India.

Mr. Vikas Gupta, a lawyer, is the founder member of Pathways Legal Consultants and has more than 20 years experience in corporate and legal arena. He is also a member of the Delhi High Court Bar Association.

Ms. Veena Chadha is a graduate in English and has been the president of Rotary Qutab four times. She has traveled the world over being an airhostess with an international airline. She has also conducted yoga and meditation workshops in India and abroad. Ms. Anjana Agarwal is a graduate from the prestigious National Law School Bangalore and has worked in the leading law firm – Amarchand and Mangaldas. She has represented NLS at numerous prestigious competitions including the All-Asian Inter-Varsity Parliamentary Debating Competition and the Harvard Model United Nations.

The emcees of the ceremony, Radhika Agarwal, President Interact Club and Reba Singh, Executive Director Interact Club spoke about the various milestones in the Rotary’s endeavour to eradicate the crippling disease – Poliomyelitis.

Each participant had two minutes to express their opinion on the topic. The judges were impressed by the eloquence of the participants and commended the Interact Club for oraganising the event. The judges gave the first prize to Viraj Gandotra, second pirze to Kartik Sawhney and declared that the third prize was a tie between Ankita Kapoor and Akshun Gupta.

A short cultural program entertained the audience while the judges tabulated the results. Sukanya Sharma of class 11 X performed a Ganesh Vandana in the classical dance form Odissi which originated from the Sun Temple. Then, Vipasha Mishra of class 11 V mellifluously sang ‘Haan Maine chu kar dekha hai’ from the movie Black.

Mr. Vikas Gupta was then called upon to administer the oath for the investiture ceremony. The members pledged to “achieve the club goals and not take undue advantage of their position in any matter while fulfilling their duties.”

The emcees then gave a vote of thanks and the Ms. Renu Panwar, teacher Incharge of Interact Club presented the judges with a token of appreciation.



Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class VII, Sections G-K at DPS R.K.Puram

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram held the annual Scholar Badge ceremony for Class VII on 15th December 2011. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest, Mr Harsh Chitale, Chief Executive Officer, HCL Infosystems Ltd.

The Principal, Dr. D.R Saini, warmly welcomed the chief guest and all the parents. The programme commenced with a mesmerizing Indian classical instrumental item which was followed by an exuberant performance by the school choir on the song, “We are the world”. The talented dancers of the school presented a dazzling dance. The tiny tots of DPS Shiksha Kendra, a school for the underprivileged run on the premises of DPS R.K.Puram, enthralled everyone with their scintillating dance performance .

Dr. Saini thanked Mr Chitale for gracing the occasion with his presence. He addressed the gathering and congratulated all the students on their achievements and shared his experiences with DPS R.K.Puram over the years, praising the school for producing ‘thinking individuals’ and ‘over achievers’. According to him, the school is really attuned to the 21st century, having a truly global ambience.

The students shared their views on success and attaining the winning edge and also highlighted the exceptional achievements of the school.

The chief guest, who is also an alumni of DPS R.K Puram, praised the great institution, the Principal and the dedicated teachers, appreciating their efforts in inculcating in the students the desire to be the best. He enlightened the students on the importance of EQ besides IQ and stressed on the importance of academics in life.

Ms Anupama Rawat, representative of class VII, initiated the most eagerly awaited part of the ceremony – the prize distribution. The various awards like the green badge for excellence in academics were presented. Students were also felicitated with a red badge, a certificate of appreciation and a red blazer for excellence in sports, music, dance, etc.

The Headmistress of classes sixth and seventh, Mrs. Anita Singh delivered the vote of thanks.



Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class VII, Sections A-F at DPS R.K.Puram

Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram hosted the annual Class VII scholar badge ceremony on the 14th of December 2011 to promote excellence in academics and co-curricular activities. The chief guest at the event was His Excellency, Mr. Shekhar Dutt, Governor of Chhattisgarh. Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman of DPS Society was the guest of honour at the event.

The programme commenced with a rejuvenating Indian classical instrumental performance. The Principal, Dr D.R. Saini welcomed everyone and appreciated the achievements of students in the various walks of life. An exuberant musical performance by the choir on the song ‘I believe I can Fly’, an enchanting classical dance item and a patriotic dance by the students of DPS Shiksha Kendra were the highlights of the programme.
A powerful PowerPoint presentation was displayed showcasing the importance of living cent percent and believing in oneself. The students shared their views on the theme, ‘Actions speak louder than words’ and put up truly inspirational speeches by world leaders including Alexander the Great, Queen Elizabeth, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Martin Luther King and Mother Teresa.

Various achievements of the school and the students were listed. The chief guest, Mr. Shekhar Dutt praised the great institution and the Principal, appreciating his efforts in inculcating in the students the desire to be the best. He enlightened the students on the importance of learning and the need to give back to society. He said that “one owes to the next generation and to share one’s experience is the best way to give back.”
Finally came the much awaited distribution of badges. The Representative for Class VII Mrs. Usha Diptivilasa read out the awards. Students were awarded scholar badges for continuous academic excellence and Red ties, blazers and badges for achievements in extra curricular activities. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Anita Singh, the Headmistress of classes sixth and seventh.



Visit of Prof.Richard W.Siegel

The school was also honoured by the visit of Prof. Richard W. Siegel. Prof. Siegel is from Troy, New York. He is currently working in Rensselaer Nanotechnology Center, Rensselaer Polytechnic University. He is fondly called the “Father of Nanotechnology”. He has been the editor of various journals and editorials; he is also the founder of “Nanoface Technologies”, one of the first companies dealing in nanotechnology and nano-materials. He is the director and producer of 3D-IMAX productions, “Molecules to the Max” a 40-minute animated production for children and is currently working on “Molecularium” a 20-minute film set to hit the screens in January 2012. The professor has developed a website for kids: www.molecularium.com which will go up next month.

Prof. Siegel addressed the students in the audio visual hall.The event began with a presentation on nanomaterials and nanotechnology. This was followed by an interactive session highlighting the everyday uses of nanotechnology including the history of development of nanotechnology in the USA. The professor shared the various aspects of nanotechnology and how it is “the next-big-thing” with the audience. The program ended with a slideshow of in-production movie stills.



G.Bhaskar Memorial Lecture and Award Ceremony

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted the G.Bhaskar Memorial Lecture and award ceremony on 12 December 2011. The programme is an annual event hosted by the school in fond memory of G.Bhaskar, an ex-student who passed away at a very young age and whose essence is ever present in the soul of the school.

The cerermony began with a flute and tabla recital by Varun and Sohum. The duo played “Vaishnav jan ” a favourite of Mahatma Gandhi and of Bhaskar. G.Bhaskar’s actual name was Venkat Subramanium. Born on 5th May 1977, he joined the school in eighth grade. Slowly but steadily he gained recognition and stood first in the All-India Mathematics Olympiad. He was a disciple of Karnatak music and an avid sportsperson, excelling in the fields of badminton and table tennis. However on 5th May 1995, he left this earthly abode, leaving behind a void in the lives of his parents and the school.

The school instituted the award ceremony in the year 1999 and has over the years invited members from the Chinmaya Mission to grace the occasion. Mr. Anand Sharma, a fellow of the Chinmaya Mision on Lodhi Road was this year’s guest speaker. He gave an enlightening talk. Interspersed with hymns from the Gita, he spoke about the relevance of Bhagwad Gita in the contemporary world and cited examples from student life relating to examinations, stress, mobile phone related distractions etc. He requested Mr. Ramnath, elder brother of G.Bhaskar, currently a professor in the USA to come up on stage and elucidate the same. Mr. Ramnath’s talk was soon followed by the award distribution by G.Bhaskar’s parents.

The recipients of this award are students who are not just academically sound but possess exemplary humane values and a genuinely helpful disposition.This year’s recipients were Shubham Goel XII-J, Abhishri XII-O, Tanya Makker , XII-H, Mishty Negi XII-I, Bhuwan Khattar XII-K, Rishabh Marya XII-J, Geetika Nagpal XII-M and Ipshita Agarwal of XII-Q. The event ended with a prayer and a distribution of sweets among the students.



The Mathematical Crusade

On 10th December 2011 Delhi Public School, R.K Puram organized ‘The Mathematical Crusade’ to celebrate the spirit of competitive and mathematical creativity at its very best. The event began with a warm welcome by the Principal, Dr. D.R Saini to the participants from the various schools. The Western vocal choir of class 9 presented a self composed song titled ‘The Lion sleeps tonight’. An Odissi dance performance was also presented by a student of class 11. Dr.Sushma Suneja, Head of the Mathematics Department and Mr. Anil Kathuria , Incharge, Mathematics Lab & Technology Centre, DPS R K Puram along with the Mathematics Department and the students of the Mathematical Society, coordinated the event. 28 schools from in and around Delhi participated in the event.

The crusade had different competitions for the students that tested the participants’ in- depth knowledge in various fields of mathematics, their problem solving skills and mathematical trivia. The contest comprised two mathematics quizzes, two problem solving rounds and three puzzle contests. There were surprise events which were revealed when the participants reached the venue.

The Guest of Honour Dr. Amitabha Tripathi, a Professor of Mathematics at IIT Delhi gave away the prizes to winners on this occasion. He spoke at length about various mathematicians and their contribution to the field of Mathematics as well as various interesting mathematical concepts.

The overall first prize was bagged by DPS R.K.Puram, but since DPS R.K.Puram was the host school, the overall trophy was given to the next team, DPS Dwarka. The first runner up was DPS Noida and overall second runner up was The Mother’s International School.

The event provided the students with a common platform to share their innovative mathematical ideas. The interactive exposure promoted mathematical thinking and creativity and was a great learning experience for them.



Visit of Mr. Farooq Wardak

Minister of Education, Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan

Delhi Public School R.K. Puram hosted the visit of His Excellency Mr. Farooq Wardak, Minister of Education, Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on 10 December 2011. He was accompanied by Mr. Abdul Wassay Arian, Director General (Planning), Ministry of Education, Government of Afghanistan; Mr. Mohammad Azeem Sahak, Second Secretary, Embassy of Afghanistan (Education) and Mr. Srinivas, Adviser to Mr. Wardak.

The event opened with a melodious orchestra presentation, after which the Principal, Dr. Saini welcomed the gathering and highlighted the educational ties between India and Afghanistan. A lively Apsara dance performance by the senior students followed. The DPS Shiksha Kendra students put up an energetic patriotic dance, to an enthusiastic applause by the audience.

Raghav Gupta and Ishita Batra talked about DPS R.K. Puram and how it provides a holistic education to every student on its rolls. They showcased the achievements of the school in the academic session 2010-2011.

Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society, spoke next of the emphasis laid on both academics and co-curricular activities at DPS R.K. Puram, and called the students the ‘ambassadors, messengers and products’ of a great institution.

Beginning his address with a few lines in Hindi, Mr. Wardak was warmly received by the audience. Drawing on his experience in various leadership positions, he discussed the educational situation in Afghanistan, and very lucidly outlined the steps that his country was taking to meet the Millennium Development Goal of Universal Primary Education. He proudly discussed Afghanistan’s recent membership to the Global Partnership for Education, and believed it would make ‘the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in hard-to-reach areas’ a priority. ‘Nothing will be sustained unless and until it will be owned by a global community’, he added. He concluded his speech by advising the students to identify, recognize and find solutions to their weaknesses.

The vote of thanks was given by Ms. Shobha Mehta, Vice Principal, who saluted the planning and determination of Mr. Wardak, and addressed the students, telling them to ‘accept whatever comes your way’.

The national anthems of India and Afghanistan provided a fitting conclusion to the programme. The delegation was then taken on a round of the school and the Sports Complex.



Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class VIII at DPS R K Puram

Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram organized its annual Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class VIII on 9th December 2011 to felicitate students for academic and co-curricular excellence. The chief guest was Dr. Sharada Nayak, Director of the Educational Resources Center and Member of the DPS Society. Ms.Sharada Subramaniam , a DPS Alumnus, was the Guest of Honour . She is presently Joint Secretary of the Rajya Sabha.

The ceremony began with a riveting performance by the school orchestra. The Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini warmly welcomed the guests and parents. This was followed by a soulful rendition of the song ‘Only Time’ by the class VIII Choir. A Konkani dance performed by students held the audience spellbound. Nishant, Ayush, Ilina, Radhika, Archit and Shreya of Class VIII spoke on how ‘Practice makes perfect’ followed by an inspirational presentation. Shagun and Radhika highlighted the achievements of DPS R.K. Puram
in the past year in various fields. Students of DPS .Shiksha Kendra put up an energetic patriotic dance performance.

In her address to the audience, Ms. Subramaniam reminisced about her alma mater and called DPS. R.K. Puram “the best school, not just in India, but in the world.” Dr. Nayak appreciated the efforts of the students and talked about the need to inculcate “traditional values of honesty, integrity and patriotism.”

The eagerly anticipated award distribution began, with many students receiving Blue and Red Blazers in recognition of their hard work. The ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms.Vanita Sehgal, Headmistress of Classes VIII-X.



Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class IX at DPS R K Puram

Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram hosted the Scholar Badge ceremony for Class IX on 8th December 2011. The chief guest for the occasion was Justice Vipin Sanghi, Judge of the Delhi High Court. The theme of the scholar badge was ‘the art of living’.The scholar badge ceremony is held annually at DPS RK Puram to promote excellence in the fields of academics and extracurricular activities.

The ceremony commenced with a soothing classical instrumental performance. The Principal, Dr D.R. Saini welcomed everyone and appreciated the achievements of students in numerous fields especially Maths and Science and called the school a “center of excellence”. An exuberant music performance by the choir on the song ‘ Junoon’, an enchanting classical dance performance and a patriotic performance by the students of DPS Shiksha Kendra were the highlights of the programme.

A powerful PowerPoint presentation was displayed showcasing the importance of living 100% and believing in oneself. The students shared their views on the art of living, stressing on the importance of family and relationships and about doing something one truly desires to do. According to them, ‘ living is an art, difficult to practice but easy to perfect’. Various achievements of the school and the students were mentioned. The chief guest, Justice Vipin Sanghi praised the great institution and the Principal , appreciating his efforts in inculcating Indian values in the students. He stressed on the importance of maintaining a balance in life, about learning from one’s mistakes, never losing hope and about pursuing knowledge and hard work rather than running after success.

Finally came the much awaited distribution of badges. Students were awarded badges and blazers for continuous academic excellence and Red ties, blazers and badges for achievements in extra curricular activities. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Vanita Sehgal, Headmistress of middle school.



Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class XI at DPS R K Puram

On 7th December 2011, Delhi Public School, RK Puram held its scholar badge ceremony for the students of Class XI. The ocassion was graced by the presence of Prof.B.P.Khandelwal, Member of DPS Society and Managing Committee DPS R.K.Puram .

The Principal, Dr. D.R Saini warmly welcomed the chief guest and the parents.The programme commenced with a classical performance which captivated everyone. The school choir entralled everyone. There was also a stellar Indian contemporary dance by the students. The students of DPS Shiksha Kendra showcased their talent.

A few students shared their views about the scholar badge ceremony and how it enables them to aim high. The chief guest, Prof.Khandelwal addressed the students and highlighted their crucial role as ‘future leaders’ and stressed that the road to success and the means employed were very important in shaping personality.

The first award which was presented was the Prantik Roy Memorial Award for Class 10 school toppers given to students who achieved 10 CGPA in CBSE Board exams.The students received green badges, blue ties, blue badges and blue blazers for academic excellence and red ties, red badges and red blazers for achievements in extra-curriculars. The ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Shobha Mehta,. It was an altogether memorable experience for those who received the awards.



Visit of French delegation to DPS R.K.Puram

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram had the opportunity of hosting a French delegation of four Principals from Paris. The delegates were accompanied by Mr. Mithun Ghosh from the French Embassy. The objective of the visit was to get a better understanding of the Indian educational system and to explore the various possibilities of collaboration between the two countries in the field of education.

Ms.Vanita Sehgal, Headmistress of the middle school, played the gracious host. The delegates were shown the infrastructure of the school which included a visit to the computer labs and classrooms equipped with the latest Smart class facilities. They also visited the Music basement for a traditional instrumental music performance by the students. Here they were each given a copy of the school’s French magazine.

Mr. Fatras and Ms. Michelle, two of the principals interacted with the French language students of class IX. The visitors appreciated the proficiency of the students in French. An Odissi dance by Sugandha was followed by a folk performance. Lastly, the visitors were treated to a French song by the school band before being taken for a stroll around the school campus.



Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class XI at DPS R.K.Puram

On 5th December 2011 Delhi Public School, RK Puram held its scholar badge ceremony for the students of Class XI. The ocassion was graced by the presence of Dr. (Prof.) Usha Luthra, Member of DPS Society, who is known for her tremendous contribution in the field of medicine, pathology and cytopathology and is currently a Professor in Kuwait University .

The Principal, Dr. DR Saini warmly welcomed the chief guest and the parents.The programme commenced with a classical performance which captivated everyone. The school choir presented “The New Song”, a self composed number. There was also a stellar Indian contemporary dance by the students. A foot-tapping performance by the students of DPS Shiksha Kendra followed.

A few students shared their views about the scholar badge ceremony and how it enables them to strive for the skies. Dr. Usha Luthra addressed the students. According to Dr.Luthra, “ DPS aims for a holistic development of students from a very young age in an attempt to attain excellence and help students from various socio-economic backgrounds”. She highlighted the importance of the three elements of success i.e hardwork, passion and compassion.
