KARTIK SRIVASTAVA: WRITE UP – LAUGH AND CRY WITH ME

KARTIK SRIVASTAVA

Currently a student of Class IX, DPS RK Puram, Kartik Srivastava has been into writing poems since the age of 9. Being the face of the school in the inter-school competition circuit, in quizzing, debating etc., people around him knew him more because of his academic and extra – curricular performance. But what was initially a stress buster or just a hobby, turned out to be a hidden talent. He has always had a creative inclination, taking great interest in singing, painting and other things. However, writing was his best pastime. Anything that has a big – enough impact on him, is put on paper. He says the words flow on their own when he’s in the right environment. Academics may be his greatest strength, but creativity, in all its forms, is what he enjoys the most. The result of his hardwork is – ‘Laugh and Cry With Me’, a compilation of 35 of the best of his poems.

DPS BOY WONDER

DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL, RK PURAM has one more jewel in its crown. Ronen Chatterjee of Class 12-S is arguably India’s youngest published author of English fiction. On his 15th birthday on August 7th,2007 he released his first book “Fire Within”, a collection of tennis stories encompassing three generations of a family. The second part consisted of a human trafficking story and one on smuggling and animal poaching.

Ronen’s second literary offering, ”Ready to Rock” was released on October 23rd, 2009 by internationally acclaimed film and TV star Kabir Bedi at the Ambassador Hotel, New Delhi. Also present on the occasion were Ambassadors, business leaders, administrators, including the Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Qureshi, broadcaster Sunit Tandon, CEO of the Lok Sabha Channel and journalists Sanjay Kapoor and Chandan Mitra. Expressing his admiration for Ronen, Kabir Bedi said, “Ronen has written not one, but two books….I hope that Ronen one day graduates to the level of noted authors like Arundhati Roy and Arvind Adiga.”

“Ready To Rock” centres around Arjun and his friends who study at a boarding school, Sherwood College, Nainital, whose alumni include Amitabh Bachchan, Kabir Bedi and the author’s father.

DPS RK Puram has acknowledged Ronen’s creativity by awarding him a Red Coat for his outstanding literary skills in November 2008.

RONEN CHATTERJEE

Born on 7 August 1992, Ronen was initially the despair of both his teachers and parents, as he neither liked to read nor write! However after much cajoling,     it was found that he was blessed with an unusual memory and ability to relate verbatim any story that was read or told to him.  From an early age, he narrated to his mother some very imaginative and colourful stories, but he refused to pen them down.  Lest his creative ideas be lost, he was persuaded for several years, and he finally relented at the age of twelve. That is when he decided to write his first story “Wimbledon”.

This became part of Ronen’s maiden publication Fire Within, which brought together tennis and adventure stories, and was a runaway publishing success.

With his second work Ready to Rock, Ronen hopes to break into the rarefied world of creative writers and carve out a special niche for himself. He is a sports enthusiast, with tennis being his first love. He enjoys swimming and playing video games.
